There are high chances that HBO Max, which provides HBO content alongside original shows, TV shows, and Hollywood movies, will be launched in India soon.

The HBO Max plan details for the Indian market have surfaced online even though the exact launch details have not been disclosed. Three tiers of streaming services are being offered, starting at Rs. 69 per month. There are already services such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and Netflix available in the country, with a catalog that offers global and local content. HBO would have to compete with that.

HBO Max’s India plan details have been reported on the telecom-focused site OnlyTech. An online pre-launch survey conducted by market research firm Nepa is said to have revealed the plans to a group of users. The survey conducted by HBO Max hasn’t revealed what the final plans are, but the company confirmed that it was completed.

HBO Max India: Plans (Expected)

1. Ad Supported

HBO Max can be purchased in India for as little as Rs. 69 each month, according to OnlyTech. Ad-supported plans would be the most affordable option, and users would be able to watch content only in standard definition (SD) resolution across mobile, tablet, and other devices. The service would also offer movies one year after their theatrical or digital release and shows after their season is over.

2. Mobile Plan

HBO Max is said to release a second plan for the Indian market called “Mobile.” This plan would be billed at Rs. 139 a month and would include ad-free SD content available only on mobile and tablet devices. HBO Max Mobile customers will be able to access movies six to eight months after their theatrical or digital release, while shows will be available two to three weeks after their release.

3. Standard Plan

A ‘Standard‘ plan from HBO Max may also cost Rs. 329 per month, offering ad-free 4K content and three concurrent streams that can be accessed across platforms. The service would bring movies and shows to viewers as soon as they’re released globally.
HBO Max plans, according to their website, allow up to five viewer profiles per account. It is also reported that the streaming service will offer annual subscription plans with discounts of up to 50 percent.

HBO Max Mobile users will have to pay Rs. 1,001 annually, while HBO Max Standard subscribers will pay Rs. 1,974.

Original shows starring Bollywood actors are said to be in the works for HBO Max’s Indian viewers. Famous Indian directors will also be bringing new content to the service, as per the report.

Furthermore, viewers within India are also said to receive localization such as subtitles in Indian languages, and Indian kids’ profiles, and a customized home screen. Dolby Atmos sound would also be included in the service.

It’s wise to take the information on HBO Max’s India plans with a pinch of salt since HBO Max hasn’t confirmed any of the details. HBO Max is currently available in the US, certain US territories, and select countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Other countries will receive it later this year.
