TL; DR
- OPPO and OnePlus are ditching the Alert Slider for a customizable Action Button, starting with the Find X8s series and OnePlus 13T.
- The new button supports shortcuts like launching apps, toggling settings, and activating AI features like One-Click Flash Note.
- It mirrors Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Action Button, but whether fans will embrace it or miss the Alert Slider remains to be seen.
OPPO and OnePlus are making a big shift in their smartphones, and it’s all about the new Action Button, replacing the Alert Slider. If you’ve been following recent leaks, you might already know that OPPO’s Find X8s is set to feature this button. But there’s more—this is not just an isolated change for one device. The OPPO Find X8s, Find X8s+, and the Find X8 Ultra will all sport this new Action Button. And it’s not stopping there.

The OnePlus 13T has also been teased with the same button, and if we’re not wrong, every upcoming OPPO and OnePlus phone will adopt this new design. The long-standing Alert Slider, which OnePlus die-hards have loved for its simple three-stage toggle, is officially being phased out.
OnePlus itself bid farewell to the Alert Slider on its community platform, confirming that all future models will feature this new button instead. The upcoming OnePlus 13T and the Nord 5 are expected to be among the first in the Nord series to carry it.

Here’s how the new Action Button works

The Action Button, also referred to as the Magic Cube Button, is a customizable button that allows users to perform multiple functions. Based on details from a YouTube video, the button supports various shortcuts, including launching apps, toggling settings, and activating specific modes.

From quickly launching the camera to enabling Do Not Disturb, the button serves as a shortcut to frequently used features. OnePlus is offering multiple customization options through the settings. You’ll be able to:

- Assign long presses to different functions.
- Trigger voice recording, take screenshots, or toggle the flashlight.
- Launch apps instantly.

Moreover, OnePlus (and OPPO) is adding a unique AI feature called One-Click Flash Note. This function allows users to quickly save and summarize content with a single press. It will also help you remember things, like Essential Space on Nothing phones. However, we believe this will stay exclusive to the Chinese models.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an option to assign the button to do an action on a single press or a double-press, which is a miss.

Do you get déjà vu?
If this move sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Apple did something similar when it replaced the mute switch with an Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro series. Now, OPPO and OnePlus are following suit, adapting their take on a multifunctional button to replace a legacy feature. Even the UI looks similar to the iPhone.
The question is—will fans embrace the change, or will the loss of the Alert Slider be too much to handle? Personally, I don’t like this move because there’s something special about having a three-stage slider. Either way, this marks a new era for OPPO and OnePlus smartphones, for better or worse.
