In the wake of US battering, Huawei and Honor have resorted to an ‘Android without Google’ future. As such, the phones from both brands will ship without Google Play Services and the dependant G Suite. The upcoming Honor 9X Pro will be the first phone to head in this direction.

For those unaware, Android without Google is a workable proposition. Huawei, as one of the stalwarts in the market, has come up with Huawei Mobile Services, which is as it sounds — is an alternative for Google’s app suite and services.

In an interview with Press Trust of India, Charles Peng, President, Huawei & Honor India Consumer Business Group said, “Honor 9X Pro is the first Honor smartphone that will be independent of the Google Play store and will feature Huawei AppGallery, one of the world’s top three app stores. We launched the smartphone at a global live stream event last month and are all set to bring the device to India in the month-end.”

As of now, the company claims many of the frequently consumed apps have made into App Gallery. It is working on convincing more Indian companies to float their apps on the app store. Speaking of most used apps, U.S. based Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, LinkedIn are likely to find a spot through sideloading.

Huawei has splurged USD 1 billion on building a befitting alternative to Google’s software. The good news is that around 1 million app developers have enlisted for Huawei AppGallery.

Finally, Mr. Cheng pointed out the company’s interest to mend things with Google. However, up until the mess is fixed, Honor is set to pursue Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) as a substitute.
