The latest update for Microsoft Windows 11 introduced new lock screen widgets that provide information about weather, traffic, date, time, sports, current affairs, etc. at a glance. While these widgets might come in handy in certain instances, they might prove to be unnecessary or distracting at other times. If you are fond of having a clean lock screen, you can remove or customize these widgets the way you want them.

Removing Lock Screen Widgets from Windows 11 Devices

While some widgets do come in handy, some of them can be annoying at times when you don’t need them. Sometimes they pop up in places where they aren’t needed at all thus disturbing your workflow or gaming session. To remove widgets from lock screen on Windows 11, follow these simple steps-

  • Removing widgets from the lock screen includes pressing the Windows key+ i keys to open the Settings application.
  • Go to Personalization and then choose ‘Lock Screen’.
  • Tap on the dropdown menu next to Lock Screen Status and choose None in the menu.

If you still want your lock screen to keep getting updates, choose another app to replace widgets. The app options include Xbox Console Companion, Weather, Calendar, Mail, and Dev Home.

Customizing Lock Screen Widgets from Windows 11 Devices

You can not add or remove the cards that show when lock screen widgets are enabled, but you can always customize them as per needs.

Weather Widget

  • To customize the Weather Widget, press Windows key+ W on your keyboard to launch the widget board.
  • Tap on the three-dot icon on the top-right side of the weather card to show more options available.
  • You can choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit to show the temperature.
  • You can also click Customize Widget in the menu to customize it more.
  • It allows you to switch to a different location by clicking the home icon next to it in the menu.
  • Looking for different cities or locations and adding them to the list is also available.

How to Get Region/Language-Based Updates

If you live in a certain region and want to get updates from other regions, that can also be done.

Changing Language

  • To change the language, press Windows+ i which will open the Settings tab.
  • Go to Time and Language> Language and Region.
  • In the Language section, choose the dropdown menu next to Windows Display Language and choose a different language from the list.
  • If you want a language that isn’t on the list, you can add that one by clicking the Add a Language button next to Preferred Languages. Select a language from the list given and click on Next.
  • You will get an Install option, click on it to start the installation process. Some languages can take a few minutes to get installed. The user will also need to connect a Windows computer to a stable internet to download these language files.

Changing Region

  • Region can also be changed by going to the Region section and choosing the dropdown menu next to Country or Region. Choose a different region/country from the list that pops up. The list is alphabetically arranged.

Your updates will be curated based on the region and language you choose.

All in all, lock screen widgets can now be removed or customized the way you want them to. You just need to follow some simple steps to modify your lock screen as per your need/likeability.
