Coinciding with the festival season, the service has been launched on Yellow Line which has 37 Metro Stations and mostly runs underground through one of the most congested parts of the capital covering Outer Delhi, south Delhi, and Gurugram. To facilitate this service, more than 330 access points have been installed at these 37 yellow line stations to provide uninterrupted internet access to the commuters.

Where else is the service available?

In January 2020, DMRC had launched a high-speed WiFi facility in train coaches on the Airport Express Line that connects New Delhi and Dwarka Sector 21 stations. It was then, the first such facility in any country in the South Asian Region. This 22.7 km swankiest line on Delhi Metro has 6 stations-New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport, and Dwarka Sector 21. Around 50 access points have been installed on this line.

Blue Line of the metro network also has this service available. The blue line (between Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic city/Vaishali) consists of 50 metro stations wherein over 400 access points are placed to provide this service. Although the services were halted in March 2020 when the covid-19 pandemic struck the country now they will be restored very soon.

What’s Next?

DMRC in association with Techno Sat Comm is also striving to introduce this facility inside the trains too in a year from now. Upgrading and installing the needed access points will be a challenging task in the already operational trains, but DMRC is confident of pulling it off.
