TL; DR
- The crossover SUV that’s globally available as the Bayon could soon launch in India, but in a new-generation avatar.
- The vehicle’s codename, as seen in some spy shots, is BC4i CUV, where ‘4i’ could refer to the fourth generation of the car.
- As and when the Bayon arrives in India, it could be shortened to fit the sub-4-meter compact-SUV segment, which is currently the hottest segment in the auto market.
In November 2025, Hyundai was spotted testing a new vehicle near its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai, widely believed to be a facelifted version of the Exter. However, a recent sighting of what appears to be the exact vehicle in South Korea indicates that it could carry a new nameplate altogether: Hyundai Bayon.

It’s The Bayon Facelift (Not The Exter 2026)

Yes, the crossover SUV that’s globally available as the Bayon could soon launch in India, but in a new-generation avatar. Currently, Hyundai is selling the third-generation in select global markets, but in India, the company could debut the fourth-generation of the vehicle, positioning it aggressively between the Exter and the Venue.

Why Is Hyundai Targeting India’s B-Segment?

Further, the B segment also enjoys certain tax benefits in India, including lower road tax. To maximize sales, the Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki sells multiple options in this category: Fronx (3,995mm) and Brezza (3,995mm).
Even though both are the same length, the former is based on Baleno’s HEARTECT platform, while the latter is based on the company’s Global-C platform. Fronx has more crossover-like characteristics, such as raised ground clearance, a sloping roofline, and a relatively narrow cabin. Brezza, on the other hand, has a more upright stance and more interior space.
There’s a decent difference in the cars’ prices as well. While the Fronx starts from Rs. 6.85 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Brezza starts from Rs. 8.26 lakhs (ex-showroom), which could also be attributed to the different engines: 1.2L NA vs. 1.5L NA. You see? Maruti has two vehicles competing in the same sub-4-meter segment, but each has distinct characteristics, and both contribute to the company’s monthly sales.

Hyundai Bayond Indian Edition Expected Features & Engine Options

Hyundai wants to do something similar with the fourth-generation Bayon. It already sells the Venue (which recently received a facelift) in the segment, but the Bayon SUV would be priced more aggressively than the Venue (but higher than the Exter).
Given that the Venue starts from Rs. 7.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the Exter starts from Rs. 5.64 lakhs (ex-showroom), the Bayon could be priced around Rs. 6.50 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. Given below is a list of all the key features expected from the Hyundai Bayon (based on the leaked spy shots).
- Boxy silhouette that resembles the theme across the company’s current lineup in India.
- Use of LED DRLs in the front and LED signature taillamps on the back.
- Modern alloy-wheel design.
- Sleek dashboard (similar to the i20 and the Venue) with large screens and steering-mounted controls.
- It could be available with a 1.2L four-cylinder NA engine (as seen on the Grand i10 Nios, Exter, i20, and Venue) and a 1.0L three-cylinder turbo engine (as seen on the i20 N-Line and the Syros).
