After months of anticipation, iOS 18 will finally be available for selected iPhone users today. With the new operating system comes plenty of new features. While old iPhone models will get iOS 18 as an OTA update, iPhone 16 will have the software update installed out of the box. Check out more details about iOS 18’s release schedule here.
iOS 18 Release Time
According to a report by MacRumors, iOS 18 should be available around 10:30 PM IST for eligible models. However, it is important to mention that some models might get the update before or after this time. Since the company has to push the OTA update to millions of devices around the world, don’t worry if it takes a few extra hours before the iOS 18 stable update is available on your iPhone.
For the iPhone 16 series that becomes available on September 20, 2024, they’ll ship with the new operating system pre-installed.

iOS 18 Compatible iPhones
The oldest iPhones to support the latest iOS 18 update are the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. Further, the second and third generation of iPhones SE will also get iOS 18. Here’s a complete list of the iPhone models that will get the stable iOS 18 update today.

iOS 18 New Features (Including Apple Intelligence)
Apple’s iOS 18 is bringing along a myriad of new features and software experiences that will improve the overall user experience for iPhone users. Addressing the elephant in the room, Apple Intelligence will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models from the list mentioned above.
Even so, the other models will get several new features, including Home Screen customization, a redesigned Control Center (check out our article about personalizing the Control Center here), improvements to iMessage, a redesigned Photos app, and a native lock for apps. Besides, there’s a new Passwords app, Distraction Control, and a new Game Mode that improves the performance of wireless accessories.

Apple’s iOS 18 also introduced the new Activation Lock that locks an iPhone’s spare parts to a particular model. Hence, if anyone steals the iPhone, they won’t be able to sell the items without entering the Apple ID and password used to activate the iPhone they belong to. Update Your iPhone Today
To update your iPhone, head to Settings > General > Software Update, and select Download. When the upgrade is downloaded, hit the Install Now button to shift from iOS 17 to iOS 18. Those with Automatic Updates enabled should get a pop-up when the iOS 18 update is available for their smartphone.
