TL; DR
- The iPhone 16 series has larger battery capacities across the board.
- Charging speeds remain the same or have slightly slowed down, especially on the iPhone 16 Plus and Pro Max, which now take 35 minutes to charge 50%.
Apple’s iPhone 16 series was being hailed for having the best battery life on an iPhone ever, and now that the battery capacities have been revealed, it’s clear that Apple has made some significant improvements. As per the battery capacities revealed by ANATEL, the iPhone 16 series comes with larger batteries across the board.
Starting with the iPhone 16, the battery has increased from 3,349 mAh on the iPhone 15 to 3,561 mAh, giving it an additional 2 hours of video playback (22 hours versus 20 hours on the iPhone 15). Both models still charge up to 50% in 30 minutes, so there’s no change in charging speed.
The iPhone 16 Plus also saw a bump in battery size, from 4,383 mAh on the iPhone 15 Plus to 4,674 mAh this year. The video playback increase, as per Apple’s official site, is minor, moving from 26 hours to 27 hours. Interestingly, the charging speed has slightly slowed down, with the iPhone 16 Plus now taking 35 minutes to reach 50% compared to last year’s 30 minutes.

For the iPhone 16 Pro, too, the battery capacity has increased from 3,274 mAh to 3,582 mAh. This gives the 16 Pro a more substantial 4-hour increase in video playback (27 hours compared to 23 hours on the iPhone 15 Pro). However, the charging speed remains unchanged at 50% in 30 minutes.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is probably where the most significant improvements lie. The battery size has increased from 4,422 mAh to 4,685 mAh, and Apple claims an impressive 33 hours of video playback, up from 29 hours on last year’s model.
However, the charging time has slowed, just like on the 16 Plus. So, now the 16 Pro Max takes 35 minutes to hit 50% compared to 30 minutes on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
While the battery capacities have undoubtedly increased and the devices are offering better battery life, the charging speeds have either remained the same or slightly slowed down, especially on the larger models. Claims of 45W charging haven’t reflected in Apple’s official claims, though the devices do support 25W MagSafe charging now.
