iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Table Of Contents

The Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to unveil the next iPhone lineup this September. It will comprise four models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Out of these, we’ll be discussing both the Pro models in this roundup, as they’re the ones rumored to come with a significant redesign, hardware upgrade, and a crucial camera update.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Launch Timeline

Both the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to debut alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup at Apple’s September 2025 launch event.

Over the years, I’ve observed that Apple unveils its new iPhones in the second week of the month, preferably during the first three days, i.e., either a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Take the iPhone 16, for example. The company revealed it on Monday, September 9, 2024. Furthermore, the iPhone 15 came out on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The previous generation, the iPhone 14, was launched on Wednesday, September 7, 2022.

Building on that pattern, the iPhone 17 could break cover between September 8 and 10. While the company could start accepting pre-orders of the handset from Friday, September 12, the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to hit the shelves beginning the following Friday, i.e., September 19, 2025.

Please remember that this is a speculative timeline and that Apple hasn’t confirmed it yet. The company usually sends out invites in the last week of August, and that’s what we’re expecting in 2025 as well.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Expected Price

Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 16 Pro at Rs. 1,19,900 in India or $999 in the United States for the baseline 128GB variant. Simultaneously, the iPhone 16 Pro Max was introduced at Rs. 1,44,900 in India and $1,199 in the United States.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are priced lower than their predecessors in India, primarily because Apple has started manufacturing these models in the country. On the other hand, the pricing remained unchanged for customers in the United States.

However, the price could rise this year, primarily in the United States and, to some extent, in India as well. The price rise could be attributed to global trade uncertainty (including the tariff on products imported from China) and the inclusion of new components (and the rise in manufacturing cost) in the iPhone 17 Pro series.

If we were to speculate, the iPhone 17 Pro could cost Rs. 10,000 more than the iPhone 16 Pro models. In the United States, the Pro iPhones could cost $100 more than their predecessor.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Design

Redesigned Back Panel

As seen in several renders, the iPhone 17 Pro could feature a redesigned back panel, which consists of a rectangular camera island that runs across the width of the smartphone, much like the horizontal camera visors on the Google Pixel phones, except that the module will be wide enough to house the triangular arrangement of the triple camera sensors.

While the camera sensors may be located on the left side of the module, the LED flash module and the LiDAR sensor could be positioned on the right side. The redesigned back panel is also evident in the pictures of the leaked iPhone 17 Pro cases, which have a cutout for the entire camera module.

In our opinion, the new design looks good on the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s back panel, as the placement of the camera lenses and the sensors looks proportionate. On the iPhone 17 Pro (with a smaller back panel), the rear panel appears somewhat cluttered (at least on the dummy units and renders we’ve seen so far).

Aluminum + Glass Build Instead Of A Titanium Frame

Rumors also suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro’s back panel will use both glass and aluminum. While the former could cover the bottom and the center of the panel (where the MagSafe charging coils are), the redesigned camera module might be made out of aluminum. And yes, Apple is reportedly ditching titanium on its Pro iPhones this year in order to achieve its carbon neutrality goal (by 2030).

Repositioned Apple Logo

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Pro’s back panel will feature a dual-tone design, where the shade of the camera module’s color will complement, but not match exactly, the rest of the back panel. While the Apple logo is situated at the center of the back panel of the current iPhone lineup, the company might have to lower the logo so that it occupies the center of the glass panel (and aligns with the MagSafe connectors).

Metalens Technology For Dynamic Island?

While renowned analyst Jeff Pu claimed that the iPhone 17 lineup (including all models) could utilize metalens technology to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island cutout, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo refuted the claim, stating that there will be no major changes to the Dynamic Island this year. Last but not least, the iPhone 17 Pro could be a tad thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro lineup (to pack in a larger battery).

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Display

Although the iPhone 17 Pro models could come with a redesigned back panel, there might not be many changes related to the handsets’ screens. While the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are said to stick to a 6.3-inch and a 6.9-inch screen, both phones are rumored to feature a scratch-resistant anti-reflective screen coating (similar to the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 on the S25 Ultra).

However, recent reports dispute the presence of the coating on the iPhone 17 Pro models, citing development issues. On the positive side, the handsets could utilize a new technology that makes them more power-efficient, resulting in less battery consumption in the always-on mode. However, nothing can be said with certainty at the moment.

Other aspects of the screen, such as pixel density, peak brightness, and ProMotion display technology, should remain unchanged.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Processor

Apple A18 chip for the iPhone 16 series

Last year, Apple unveiled the A18 Pro chip for the iPhone 16 Pro models. It was based on TSMC’s N3E (3nm) fabrication process. This year, the company should unveil the A19 Pro chip for the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro models. The chipset should utilize TSMC’s N3P 3nm technology, which increases efficiency and clock speed.

The A18 Pro was approximately 20% faster than the A17 Pro in single- and multi-core Geekbench 6 benchmarks. The A19 Pro could provide a similar upgrade over the A18 Pro. We could be looking at a chipset that scores around 4,000 points in the single-core and around 10,000 points in the multi-core GeekBench 6 CPU test, and in consumer-grade devices, no less.

If that happens, the A19 Pro chip on the Pro iPhones will become one of the most powerful mobile chipsets to have existed ever (not just on an iPhone, but even otherwise). Its only competition in 2025 will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC, which is expected to arrive later in the year at the Snapdragon Summit in September 2025.

Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro may feature a vapor chamber cooling mechanism for improved thermal dissipation (as the A19 Pro chip might reach higher operational temperatures) and 12GB of RAM (50% more than the 8GB RAM on the iPhone 16 Pro models), which will give a boost to the on-device Apple Intelligence features.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Software

iOS 26 vs. iOS 18: Liquid Glass Design, Improved Visual Intelligence, Smarter Shortcuts, Call Screening, And More

Out of the box, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup will ship with iOS 26, Apple’s latest operating system that features a Liquid Glass design. As seen at the WWDC and the developer betas that have since rolled out, iOS 26’s user interface comprises translucent, reflective layers that mimic the properties of real-world glass.

Apple’s iOS 26 will come with redesigned buttons, switches, toggles, an all-new transparent theme called Clear Look, more Lock Screen and Home Screen customization options, a new Control Center with Liquid Glass design, Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app, new Visual Intelligence lookup feature that rivals Google’s Circle to Search, and improved call screening and features.

Apple will also bring the Liquid Glass design language to CarPlay. The stable version of iOS 26 will roll out along with the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025. If you wish to get your hands on the operating system, you can download a developer beta or wait for the public beta to roll out, likely in July.

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Cameras

Currently, the Pro iPhones feature two 48MP sensors (primary and ultrawide) and a 12MP (telephoto) sensor. However, the iPhone 17 Pro could get a third 48MP telephoto sensor, which will not only help in capturing sharper images but extend the hybrid zoom range beyond the current levels (25x).

There are rumors that the 48MP telephoto sensor will provide 3.5x optical zoom, as opposed to 5x on the current 12MP sensor. However, having a higher resolution telephoto sensor will allow Apple to mimic the 5x or 120mm zoom perspective with ease.

While the current iPhone 16 Pro models are limited to 4K60 fps video recording, the iPhone 17 Pro should be able to capture 8K videos (perhaps in 60 fps). On the front, the iPhone 17 Pro models could feature a 24MP selfie shooter with autofocus.

Additional features include dual-video recording that enables the iPhone to simultaneously record videos from two camera sensors and a mechanical camera aperture for the primary sensor (for better control over depth of field).

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Battery & Charging Speed

There are rumors that the iPhone 17 Pro may be slightly thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro to accommodate a larger battery, but there are no specific numbers to indicate the purported iPhones’ battery life. Furthermore, the A19 Pro’s power efficiency may also help preserve the battery for longer.

Regarding charging speeds, the iPhone 17 Pro may not offer an upgrade over the iPhone 16 Pro’s charging capabilities. We’re talking about 35W wired charging, which would make the upcoming iPhones one of the slowest-charging flagships in the world.

While the Pro models could come with 7.5W reverse wireless charging, they could also use the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard, which supports charging speeds of up to 50W (however, it’s unlikely for Apple to utilize the maximum speed).

iPhone 17 Pro Roundup: Connectivity

When it comes to connectivity, the iPhone 17 Pro is said to retain a Qualcomm 5G modem that unlocks both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G connectivity. What’s interesting is that all the models in the lineup are said to come with an Apple-designed Wi-Fi chip that supports Wi-Fi 7.
