iQOO 16 Price in India Could Cross ₹1 Lakh, CEO Nipun Marya Says It Is a “True, Complete Flagship”

The iQOO 16 is coming to India “soon,” but iQOO has not announced a price or launch date. In an exclusive conversation with Smartprix at India Mobile Congress 2026, CEO Nipun Marya said the phone is meant to be a flagship that goes beyond gaming and benchmarks.

TL;DR
  • Is the iQOO 16 launching in India? Yes. Nipun Marya confirmed it, but gave no date beyond “soon.”
  • What is the price? iQOO has not announced one. Online estimates vary, and some suggest more than ₹1 lakh.
  • Key hardware: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a Samsung M16 2K display at 165Hz, and a battery above 8,000mAh.
  • Software: OriginOS 7 is expected, but details were still being finalized.
  • Biggest unknowns: AI features, camera performance, software support period, and final pricing.

For years, iQOO’s pitch in India has been simple: if performance matters to you, its phones belong on your shortlist. The brand built its identity on fast processors, gaming features, and spec-sheet appeal. With the iQOO 16, it wants to change that conversation.

I sat down with Nipun Marya, iQOO’s CEO, for an exclusive chat on the sidelines of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 series showcase event at India Mobile Congress 2026. He also let me handle the upcoming flagship iQOO 16 for a few minutes. That wasn’t enough time to share hands-on impressions, but it gave an early look at where iQOO wants to take its premium phones.

“The philosophy behind the iQOO 16 is to deliver a true, complete flagship experience,” Marya told me. “Performance is one aspect, but we also want to deliver a premium experience across the display, software, camera and overall design.”

iQOO 16 specifications: what we know so far

The hardware matches the pitch, at least on paper. Here’s what iQOO has confirmed so far:

  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
  • Display: Samsung M16, 2K resolution, 165Hz refresh rate
  • Battery: more than 8,000mAh
  • Software: OriginOS 7 expected, details not final
  • India price and launch date: not announced

Marya pointed to the display as a key selling point. He also highlighted the battery size, how it fits inside the phone, and the tactile feel of the buttons.

These specifications suit buyers who want a high-refresh display, a big battery, and top-tier processing in one phone. But a fast chip is only part of the flagship experience. Sustained performance, thermal management, battery efficiency, camera consistency, and software polish decide whether a phone still feels premium after the first few weeks.

Marya wants buyers to judge the phone on its technology. “People research the technology and decide what they want from a flagship,” he said. “We believe the iQOO 16 will offer a complete flagship experience.”

iQOO 16 Is More Than a Gaming Flagship

iQOO has long been associated with gaming, thanks to its performance-focused phones and gaming partnerships. Marya argues that the image doesn’t reflect who actually buys its devices. “Many consumers choose our phones for the overall experience, not just gaming,” he said.

iQOO 16 wants to reach beyond gamers. It gives equal focus to the display, camera, software, and AI, not just the chipset. That matters because if you’re paying flagship prices, you expect strong cameras, smooth software, and reliable battery life, not just speed.

Marya did not position the phone as a replacement for a camera-first device like the Vivo X series. He said the two serve different expectations. “Not everyone needs that kind of photography experience,” he said, describing the iQOO 16 as a more balanced flagship.

That is a more credible claim than promising the best of everything. Still, iQOO will need to show that its cameras hold up against established premium phones with moving subjects, low light, portraits, and video.

iQOO 16 AI features and OriginOS 7: Still Unclear

I asked which AI features would make a practical difference on the iQOO 16. Marya kept the details back. “I think we are going to surprise people with AI,” he said, adding that he’d reveal more later.

We still don’t know which AI features will be available in India at launch, which will run on the device, or which will need the cloud. It’s also unclear how many will stay useful after the first few weeks.

Software matters as much. iQOO 16 is expected to launch in India with OriginOS 7, but Marya said the details aren’t final yet. The iQOO team believes OriginOS 7 will improve daily use.

iQOO 16 price in India: could it cost more than ₹1 lakh?

Online estimates for the iQOO 16’s India price vary. Some put it above ₹1 lakh. iQOO hasn’t announced an official price, and Marya didn’t confirm one when I asked.

I think a price above ₹1 lakh wouldn’t be surprising, given the hardware and pressure on component costs. That is an editorial estimate, not inside information.

The wider market gives some reason to take that seriously. According to a Counterpoint estimate, global smartphone shipments have tumbled 20% year over year as soaring memory chip costs and supply shortages pressured manufacturers and pushed up prices.

None of that fixes what iQOO will charge. Brands make different choices on component sourcing, margins, storage variants and regional pricing.

When I asked how iQOO would stay competitive as costs rise, Marya gave a broader answer instead of a number. “The definition of competitive pricing has changed,” he said.

“iQOO has always stood for delivering great value, and we believe people will continue to find value in the latest technology we are bringing with this product.”

In other words, iQOO wants value judged by the whole experience, not only by whether it undercuts rivals.

At a lower price, the iQOO 16 could attract enthusiasts who want flagship hardware without the full premium. At above ₹1 lakh, buyers will expect better camera performance, software support, build quality, and after-sales service.

iQOO 16 India launch date: what we know

Marya confirmed the iQOO 16 is coming to India. But when asked when, he gave a one-word answer with a mild smile: “Soon.”

India pricing, launch date, and full retail specs are still to come. Marya’s larger goal is to make iQOO a brand that stands on its own, one enthusiasts consider a natural choice, not just when gaming performance comes first.

The iQOO 16 will test that goal. Processor and display are just the start. Camera, software, long-term support, and final price will decide if this is just a powerful phone or a true premium flagship.
