In 2023, OnePlus released its first foldable smartphone, the OnePlus Fold (review). It spiked a wave of conversation among enthusiasts and tech-savvy users fascinated by book-style foldable smartphones.

With a slightly different aspect ratio than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (review) and a more capable camera system, the OnePlus Fold caught many eyes and received mixed but mostly positive reviews. As a tipster recently stated, a flip-style foldable could be next in line.

OnePlus Flip Could Use The Same Telephoto Sensor As Oppo’s Next Foldable

Oppo Find N3 Flip teaser

A Chinese tipster (from Weibo) has claimed that OnePlus is working on a flip-style foldable. According to Smart Pikachu, Oppo’s next flip phone could come with a telephoto and macro camera. This foldable could be the successor to the Oppo Find N3 Flip (review) released last year.

In addition to the claim, the tipster mentions that OnePlus could launch a flip-style smartphone with a telephoto and a macro camera. Based on this claim, several publications speculate that OnePlus could launch the N3 Flip’s successor as its first flip-style foldable.

In other words, the purported OnePlus Flip could be a rebranded Oppo Find N5 Flip (the potential successor to the N3 Flip). The speculation is backed by OnePlus’s approach toward its first book-style fold phone, the OnePlus Open, based on the Oppo Find N3.

Vivo And Oppo Haven’t Given Up On Their Flip Phones: Tipster

When translated from Chinese to English, the tipster’s post reads that Vivo and Oppo haven’t given up on the flip foldables. However, their products are about half a year behind schedule. This doesn’t fall in line with previous reports about Oppo canceling its next flip-style phone.

Zooming out a bit, a OnePlus Flip phone with a flagship chipset, multi-camera setup (with a telephoto sensor), decent battery life, and aggressive price will be a compelling combination. While book-style foldable phones have been around for a while, flip-style models are usually more affordable and have a wider reach.

It Makes Sense For OnePlus To Launch A Flip-Style Smartphone

Hence, it will make sense for OnePlus to launch a new flip-style foldable. The Find N3 Flip is the only flippable phone with a telephoto camera for those catching up. Hence, the presence of this particular camera sensor will be important for the success of the OnePlus Flip if the smartphone is in the making at all.

It is important to mention that this is the first time we’ve heard the purported OnePlus Flip. Hence, readers should take this information with a pinch of salt.
