About a week ago a report suggested that Reliance Jio is allegedly working on a sub Rs 4000 phone. While Reliance’s Jio arm is currently maintaining silence regarding details of the upcoming affordable Jio Android phone, a smartphone codenamed Orbic RC545L has appeared on the Google Android listing.

The Google console itself has no mention of Reliance or Jio, a tipster claims that this is the same Rs 4,000 smartphone was in the news last week. At the same time, FCC listing of the same device does not corroborate these claims.

The Google Play Console listing reveals that the Reliance Orbic (RC545L) smartphone is backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon QM215 which is codename for SD215SoC. The affordable smartphone is listed to run Google Android 10. It is quite possible that it comes running the Android Go version. The phone is listed to feature an HD+ screen with a 720×1440 resolution.

The same RC 545L device was also spotted on the United State’s Federal Communications Commission website. Interestingly, the RC 545L is submitted to FFC by Reliance Communications LLC which doesn’t seem to have any direct connection Jio or Reliance Industries. The FCC listing also reveals that this is a made in China phone (which is contrary to earlier reports on Jio’s Android phone).

As per the rumors on the street, the Jio Android phone is expected to make its debut around Diwali in India. Jio is reportedly hoping to sell 200 million smartphones in the next two years. If indeed a Jio smartphone under Rs 4,000 is true, it could disrupt the affordable feature phone market. Since Smartprix, can not independently verify this information, we urge you to take it with a pinch of salt.

Thanks for the tip Nishant.
