LG is finally making good on its CES promises. The company has begun rolling out Dolby Atmos FlexConnect to its 2025 OLED and QNED lineups, potentially ending the era of the HDMI cable web living behind your TV stand.
The update is hitting the heavy hitters first: the LG G5, C5 (including the CS5), and the QNED9M LCD. If you’ve already upgraded to a 2026 model, you’re already in the club as the feature comes baked into this year’s hardware out of the box.

What is FlexConnect, anyway?
Think of FlexConnect as Dolby’s attempt to solve the living room problem. Most people don’t have perfectly rectangular rooms or the patience to run wires under the rug.
When you pair a compatible LG TV with supported speakers, the system wirelessly connects to up to four speakers and one subwoofer. It then uses the TV’s microphones to map where those speakers actually are, even if one is on a bookshelf and the other is awkwardly tucked behind a plant, and balances the Atmos output accordingly.
The Gear You’ll Need:
To actually use this, you’ll need LG’s new compatible audio hardware:
- M7 Soundbar
- M5 and M7 Wireless Speakers
- W7 Subwoofer
However, there’s a catch. For now, FlexConnect remains within the walled garden. You’ll need an LG TV to work with LG speakers. While TCL is also exploring FlexConnect, don’t anticipate brand mixing just yet.
Another standard in a crowded room
FlexConnect enters a market that is already exhausted by choice. It’s competing with Samsung’s Q-Symphony, DTS Play-Fi, and the Sonos ecosystem.
LG has been down this road before. They were early champions of WiSA, a wireless audio standard that promised low latency but eventually faded into niche enthusiast territory. Dolby’s brand power might give FlexConnect the push it needs to go mainstream, but only if it can convince other manufacturers to stop building their own proprietary silos.
How to get it
The update is rolling out globally now. To see if your TV is ready for the wireless future, head to your settings menu:
- Look for: Software version 33.30.92 or 33.30.80.
- Method: Most TVs will pull this down automatically, but you can force the issue via the “Software Update” menu or grab it from LG’s support site via USB if you’re feeling old-school.
