TL; DR
- Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicle — the XEV 9S — will officially debut on November 27, 2025.
- According to recent reports, the XEV 9S could feature a longer wheelbase than the XEV 9e, enabling the automaker to add another row of seating, albiet with relatively less legroom (and reduced overall boot space).
- The dashboard of the Mahindra XEV 9S could also get plenty of upgrades. The top trims, for instance, could get the triple 12.3-inch infotainment setup we’ve seen on the XEV 9e.
- We’re expecting the Mahindra XEV 9S to borrow its battery packs from the XEV 9e, a strategy that could be both convenient and efficient for the company, and, at the same time, make the available options easier to understand for prospective buyers.
The Indian automaker Mahindra was expected to unveil an electrified version of its XUV 700, reportedly called XEV 7e. However, as part of a major rejig, the company has decided to launch its new electric SUV under the XEV 9 lineup (established with the XEV 9e released in November 2024), called XEV 9S.
Mahindra XEV 9S Launch Date Revealed
Mahindra’s upcoming electric vehicle — the XEV 9S — will officially debut on November 27, 2025. Notably, this is the automaker’s first three-row EV in India. While there’s no solid rumor or leak about the vehicle’s price, we expect it to start at around Rs. 20 to 22 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the baseline variant with a smaller battery pack.

Mahindra XEV 9S: Exterior And Interior Design
First and foremost, the electric vehicle will be based on Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform. For those catching up, this is the company’s born-electric platform (designed specifically for EVs). We’ve already seen the platform in action on vehicles like the BE 6 and the XEV 9e, where it garnered plenty of praise from critics for its versatility; it supports multiple vehicle styles and seating configurations.
According to recent reports, the XEV 9S could feature a longer wheelbase than the XEV 9e, enabling the automaker to add another row of seating, albiet with relatively less legroom (and reduced overall boot space). On the side, the vehicle could have a similar silhouette to the XUV 700. However, it is the front and rear profiles that could borrow extensively from the XEV 9e.
Given that the XEV 9S is believed to be the production-spec iteration of the XUV 700, which was a prototype. As a result, the EV could get a connected DRL setup on the front, a closed-front design with blanked-off grille, dual-pod LED headlamps, and a broad, upright stance that gives the front fascia a bold, aggressive look. While the side profile could contain new alloy wheels and flush door handles, the rear could also get a new connected LED tail lamp.

Mahindra XEV 9S: Features
The dashboard of the Mahindra XEV 9S could also get plenty of upgrades. The top trims, for instance, could get the triple 12.3-inch infotainment setup we’ve seen on the XEV 9e. Further, the vehicle could get an XEV 9e-inspired dashboard with the new EV steering wheel (featuring an illuminated logo), a mix of touch and physical buttons, a minimal center console, and XUV 700-inspired second- and third-row utility features.
We’re also expecting the EV to offer features such as powered front seats with ventilation, wireless phone charging (perhaps one in the second row as well), dual-zone climate control, a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, ambient lighting, and either a panoramic sunroof (confirmed via teaser) or a panoramic glass roof.
Mahindra XEV 9S: Battery Packs

We’re expecting the Mahindra XEV 9S to borrow its battery packs from the XEV 9e, a strategy that could be both convenient and efficient for the company, and, at the same time, make the available options easier to understand for prospective buyers. It would also let the company sell the EV in multiple variants across the lineup, including Pack 1, Pack 2, and Pack 3 configurations (or other similar configurations).

- 59 kWh battery pack: 231 PS of peak power and 380 Nm of peak torque; up to 542 kilometers of claimed range
- 79 kWh battery pack: 285 PS of peak power and 380 Nm of peak torque; up to 656 kilometers of peak range
Please note that there could be a difference in the claimed range of the XEV 9S and the XEV 9e, as the former could debut with higher weight and carrying capacity (which might reduce the effective range). In real-world scenarios, the XEV 9S could provide a range of around 450 kilometers with the larger battery pack and six to seven people in the car.
With regards to safety, the EV could come with features like seven airbags, rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Level 2 ADAS. While Mahindra could open bookings for the vehicle soon, deliveries might begin in December 2025.
