MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, its new flagship smartphone chipset and the company’s first mobile chip built on TSMC’s 2nm process. It comes with a new CPU and GPU architecture, much faster AI processing, LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 support, and a major camera upgrade.

The chip is also coming to several major flagships. The vivo X500 Pro, X500 Pro Max and OPPO Find X10 Pro Max are among the first phones confirmed to use it. OPPO Chief Product Officer Pete Lau has also confirmed that the Find X10 Pro Max will launch globally with the Dimensity 9600 Pro.

2nm Silicon and a New CPU Design

The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a 2+3+3 all-big-core CPU with 21% more L2 cache. Two cores can reach 4.55GHz, while the others run at up to 4.35GHz or 3.1GHz depending on the workload.

MediaTek claims 17% higher single-core and 15% higher multi-core performance than the previous generation. Power efficiency is also up by 37% in single-core workloads and 61% in multi-core workloads.

The chip supports LPDDR6 memory, with 33% higher effective memory bandwidth, and UFS 5.0 storage, which can reach twice the read/write speeds of two-channel UFS 4.

MediaTek’s Dimensity Scheduling Engine 3.0 and AI Compute Fusion Architecture also claim 40% faster LLM token generation and 27% faster on-device AI model launches.

AI

AI is one of the biggest changes here. The dual-NPU architecture and Dimensity Agentic AI Engine can run Mixture of Experts LLMs directly on the phone, alongside LLM compression and proactive AI functions.

The NPU 1090 is claimed to have 2x INT4 compute, 51% faster LLM prefill and 55% higher token generation per watt. MediaTek also says its NPU 2.0 is 40% more power efficient. Reuters reports that the company measured a 51% improvement in processing a user’s prompt before the AI model starts generating a response.

Gaming

Gaming gets the new G2-Ultra NX GPU, which supports native 185fps gameplay. MediaTek claims 27% higher peak performance, 24% better power efficiency at peak load and up to 18% faster ray tracing.

Cameras

For cameras, the Imagiq 1290 ISP works with the AI hardware through MediaTek’s All Imaging Fusion Architecture. It supports 60fps continuous subject tracking, 17EV HDR video, 4K60 content-aware processing, 4K120 Cinematic Log and slow-motion recording up to 4K240. There is also a new H.266 hardware video decoder, BT.2020 support and multi-frame overdrive for reducing motion blur.

Connectivity

Connectivity includes a 5G-Advanced modem with in-modem AI, 5CC carrier aggregation with more than 7.4Gbps download speeds, real-time network optimisation and Bluetooth 6.2. MediaTek also claims its AI Connectivity Framework can improve positioning accuracy and roaming stability by 30%.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Phones

The Dimensity 9600 Pro will debut across multiple flagship phones in China this month, including the vivo X500 Pro, X500 Pro Max and OPPO Find X10 Pro Max. The global confirmation for the Find X10 Pro Max is also here, as Pete Lau has confirmed the phone will use the 9600 Pro outside China too.

The company is also expanding its AI business into data-center and custom silicon. Its first AI accelerator designed for a major US cloud service provider is expected to enter mass production in Q4 2026. MediaTek recently raised $3.9 billion through a convertible bond sale, with Nvidia investing $3.5 billion and Google also participating.
