Mid-size SUVs from Maruti and Toyota likely to launch in India in Q4, 2022

Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 to compete against the popular Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The automobile market of mid-size SUVs is expanding in India with major offerings from Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Kia. While two new entrants are reported to be in the works with codenames Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 to compete against the popular Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The two vehicles will follow the mid-size SUV design while in-depth details have not completely come into the picture. Here is a little information to share with you at this point. 

Architecture of Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 

Both the SUVs are said to be designed based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform including a new underbody and suspension setup. The platform has been introduced in 2019 to cater to the need of producing cars with a highly rigid body and lower weight.

Suzuki K15B engine

Engine Details 

Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 both SUVs will arrive equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated K15B engine to deliver a power of 104hp and a torque of 138Nm. It is also said that the upcoming SUVs may be powered by a hybrid technology for performance improvement in terms of fuel efficiency.

Design and Interior

The camouflaged model of both Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 has been seen for testing that reveals the exterior design. Maruti YFG was seen with split front lights including LED DRLs and a new-style grille. It will offer a ground clearance of up to 200mm, alloy wheels, and ORVMs with turn indicators.

While Toyota D22 features an exterior design similar to SUVs like Toyota RAV4 and Corolla Cross. It is anticipated to sport the front spoiler with a honeycomb mesh pattern and split headlights with dual LED DRLs. There are no details for interior style and features by the two mid-size SUVs will support a modern touchscreen infotainment setup and easily connected car technologies.

Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 in India 

While there is no official confirmation about when the manufacturers will unveil Maruti YFG and Toyota D22 but it is expected that the two mid-size SUVs may launch in October or November 2022.
