TL; DR
  • Nothing launched Essential Voice on April 23, 2026 — a real-time speech-to-text tool that removes filler words and auto-formats text.
  • It supports 100+ languages, real-time translation, and custom voice shortcuts, with audio deleted from servers post-processing.
  • Live on Nothing Phone (3) now; rolling out to Phone (4a) Pro in April and Phone (4a) in early May.

Nothing launched Essential Voice on April 23, 2026, a real-time speech-to-text feature that removes filler words, auto-formats output, and supports 100+ languages with live translation.

Until now, dictation on phones transcribes everything you say, the way you say it. Sometimes, that might convert into a grammatically incorrect, oddly structured sentence, something that you can’t send over to your colleagues or boss. Well, Nothing just decided that it isn’t good enough, and launched a new feature called Essential Voice.

The feature, which sits within the Essential AI toolset, is designed to turn spoken words into clean, formatted, and ready-to-send texts, and in real-time, no less.

What Makes Essential Voice Different From Regular Dictation Tools?

Average smartphone users type at roughly 36 words per minute, while speaking comfortably clocks around 150 words per minute. In other words, speaking the text for emails or messages is much faster than drafting them on a smartphone. However, most people still type because dictation output is quite messy.

This is where the new Nothing tool steps in. Essential Voice processes spoken input in real-time and generates clean, formatted text, automatically removing filler words like ”um,” “uh,” and straightening up the structure. Furthermore, users can also dictate format-related instructions for organizing the transcript into steps, lists, or bullet points.

The Essential Voice feature has been integrated directly into the keyboard on Nothing devices. You can also trigger it via a long-press on the Essential Key. It also includes Personal Mappings, wherein users can build custom voice shortcuts that trigger a specific spelling, template, or address.

Does The New Feature Support Multiple Languages And Translations?

The feature also comes with multilingual support for over 100 languages at launch. With real-time translation, users can also speak in one of the supported languages and get the transcribed output in the other.

For those concerned about privacy, Nothing says that the feature doesn’t listen to anything that users are saying in the background. It only activates upon user initiation, sends encrypted audio to Nothing’s servers, and then gets back the results for displaying on the device (without storing the data after the process is complete).

For now, Essential Voice is available on the Phone (3). Later this month, the feature will roll out to the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, and then to the regular Phone (4a) in early May.
