TL; DR
  • Xiaomi officially confirms Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will get a secondary rear display called the “Magic Back Screen,” wrapping around the camera for extra functionality.
  • The launch is set for late September in China.
  • Xiaomi is skipping the 16 series name, and both phones will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Xiaomi surprised everyone by skipping the 16 series and jumping straight to the 17 lineup. Now, they’ve dropped a teaser confirming a secondary display on the back of the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Called the “Magic Back Screen,” it’s a full-color, high-def LTPO panel that wraps around the rear camera module.

This screen should be able to show notifications, enable selfies using the rear cameras, and host interactive elements like on some Flip phones. It’s a nod to dual-screen devices like the Mi 11 Ultra but upgraded with modern LTPO tech for high refresh rates and brightness.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max Expected Specs

The 17 Pro and Pro Max will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is Qualcomm’s successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The Pro Max is expected to feature a 6.8-inch flat 2K LTPO OLED front display, 1.15 mm bezels, and a silicon-carbon 7,500 mAh battery that is expected to support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The cameras are expected to include a Leica-tuned triple 50MP setup: a 23mm f/1.67 main (SmartSens SC590XS, 1/1.3-inch), a 17mm ultra-wide (JN5, 1/2.76-inch), and a 115mm 5X periscope telephoto (Samsung GN8, f/2.6, 1/1.96-inch). The 17 Pro is expected to use an IMX858 telephoto while keeping the same main and UW cameras.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max Launch Date

Xiaomi 17 Pro

The China launch is set for late September, with a global rollout expected in early 2026. While the standard Xiaomi 17 sticks to a conventional design, the Pro models’ rear screen makes them stand out in a crowded flagship space. What do you think of the rear display?
