The Chinese smartphone and gadgets manufacturing brand OnePlus is about to unveil its next-generation flagship in a few months. Dubbed the OnePlus 13, the handset will carry forward the baton from the OnePlus 12 (review), an excellent smartphone with top-tier hardware, software, and other features. Ahead of the launch or any official announcement related to the device, a company official has teased the OnePlus 13 in a post on the Chinese microblogging platform.

OnePlus 13 To Feature BOE’s Second-Generation Oriental Screen

Louis Lee, the OnePlus China head, briefly teased the company’s upcoming flagship — OnePlus 13 — through a Weibo post on Sunday. Lee wrote, “The world’s first second-generation Oriental Screen was successfully lit.” The company has completed the outdoor testing of the new display technology created by BOE, which will feature in the OnePlus 13 at launch.
The second-generation “Oriental” screen on the OnePlus 13 should be significantly better than the first-generation module on the OnePlus 12. Given that the company official is completing the outdoor brightness test, it looks like the screen will offer exceptional brightness, even under direct sunlight or in bright environments.

OnePlus 13 Specifications (Rumored)

In the past, we’ve heard rumors about a 6.82-inch 2K LTPO micro quad-curved OLED screen on the OnePlus 13. However, Lee’s post about the second-generation “Oriental” screen from BOE makes it more likely that the smartphone will offer an excellent display, outperforming its rivals in this aspect. With LTPO technology and support for up to 120Hz refresh rate, the screen will also deliver a smoother experience, especially when compared to one of the only 60Hz flagships, the iPhone 16 (review).
Besides the screen, the OnePlus 13 could run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which could also launch at the Snapdragon Summit, which is scheduled for late October. Along with the powerful processor, the phone will feature up to 24GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, at least in its native market. In India, OnePlus could launch the upcoming flagship in lower storage trims, like 256GB and 512GB.
Citing information from other reports, the smartphone could feature a 50MP triple rear camera setup, which includes a Sony LYT-808 primary sensor, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 50MP periscope telephoto sensor. Last but not least, the OnePlus 13 could feature a 6,000 mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging, similar to what is rumored for the iQoo 13.

OnePlus 13 Launch Timeline (Expected)
Given that the smartphone is still under testing (or was until recently) and that there are plenty of new smartphones in the market (with the recent Google and Apple launches), the brand might want to hold off until December 2024 to launch the OnePlus 13.
Last year, the OnePlus 12 debuted in China in December, and it wasn’t until January that the company launched the phone in India. This year, we can expect a similar launch timeline.
