India’s foldable smartphone market is booming, with brands like Samsung, Motorola, and Tecno already competing for market share. Now, OnePlus is set to join the fray with its first-ever foldable smartphone, which is expected to launch on October 19.

OnePlus Open has been teased via a post on the OnePlus Twitter handle. Moreover, the device was spotted in the hands of Bollywood Actress Anushka Sharma a few days ago, thus confirming that India’s launch is not too long now. Read on to find out everything we know about the OnePlus Open so far.

OnePlus Open: Teaser/ Launch Date

OnePlus has officially shared a teaser for OnePlus Open but the brand hasn’t mentioned the name of the device. The teaser shows a tall profile of the phone with an alert slider, something that OnePlus is known for. The post has been shared by the OnePlus India handle thus confirming the India launch very soon.

OnePlus Open: Expected Price

OnePlus is not expected to compete with Samsung in terms of pricing. A recent report claims that OnePlus Open will have a US price of under 1700 USD (Rs. 1,41,341). Earlier tipster Yogesh Brar claimed that OnePlus Open will have an India price of below Rs. 1,20,000. The pricing is expected to be less than that of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

OnePlus Open: Design

OnePlus Open will come with an outward folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Oppo Find N2. Some renders that have surfaced online show a tall cover display and a larger inner panel. The renders look very similar to those of Oppo Find N3 which will remain China exclusive while OnePlus Open will launch globally.

The camera module on the back appears to have been inspired by the OnePlus 11 with Hasselblad branding and 3 camera sensors. The OnePlus Open has sleek metal sides and a textured back with a leather-like finish. The sides house a fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button and an alert slider on the left-hand side. OnePlus is apparently making the best hinge in the segment as recent reports claim that the hinge of the OnePlus Open will last more than 400,000 unlocks which is double than Samsung Z Fold5’s number.

OnePlus Open: Expected Specs

OnePlus Open is expected to arrive with all the bells and whistles of a flagship foldable. It is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with either 12GB or 16GB RAM and at least 512GB storage. The foldable will come with a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED inner display and a 6.3-inch AMOLED high-quality outer panel, both with 120Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus will continue its association with Hasselblad for cameras as can be seen in the renders. The back panel has 3 camera sensors and Hasselblad branding. OnePlus Open will most likely run the OxygenOS version of the Android 14 OS and hopefully, OnePlus will make it compatible with foldable. The foldable from OnePlus is also said to have a large 4805mAh battery life and 100W fast charging support.

In terms of camera optics, the foldable is said to arrive with a 48MP primary lens along with a 48MP wide-angle lens and a 64MP zoom lens with 3x optical zoom. At the front will be a 20MP+32MP selfie camera housed inside a centered punch-hole cutout.

OnePlus Open rebadged version of Oppo Find N3

A few days ago, Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus Open will be a rebranded version of the Oppo Find N3 that will be exclusive to China. OnePlus Open will retail globally including India. Digital Chat Station has leaked a photograph that shows the OnePlus Open in a semi-folded form with speakers on both ends of the display.

Pete Lau stated that the business owns 35 patents for the revolutionary hinge design that will be included in OnePlus Open. There will be an alert slider as well. Oppo has already shown what it can do in terms of foldables with the Find N Fold series and the Find N Flip series. Now, the OnePlus team is aiming to build a solid formidable product for markets outside China.

OnePlus Open Vs It’s Competition

Industry insiders, who have had privileged access to the device, have been raving about the OnePlus Open‘s form factor, comparing it favorably to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Despite boasting a larger front screen, it’s said to feel noticeably lighter than its Samsung foldable counterpart. However, where OnePlus still has some ground to cover in comparison to Samsung is in the camera department.

Of course, it’s essential to remember that while these industry insiders offer valuable insights, we can’t definitively confirm their assessments until we have the opportunity to get our hands on the device and thoroughly evaluate it ourselves.

OnePlus flagships have always been among the best Android phones and with OnePlus Open, the brand will look to continue the legacy in the foldable market as well. While we don’t have much concrete information about OnePlus Open as of now, that will change in the coming week as the foldable will launch in October itself.
