OpenAI recently launched the ChatGPT app for MacOS Users, but initially, it was only available to GPT Plus subscribers. However, now the app has been made accessible to all MacOS users. To download the app for free, users can visit OpenAI’s official website. OpenAI made this announcement through its X account, stating, “The ChatGPT app for macOS is now available for all users. Enhance your chatting experience with ChatGPT by discussing email, screenshots, and anything on your screen using the Option + Space shortcut.”

Although OpenAI has confirmed the availability of the app for all MacOS users, there is still a limitation. The ChatGPT desktop application is only compatible with a limited number of Macs. It will exclusively run on Macs powered by Apple Silicon and running MacOS 14 or newer versions. Unfortunately, other Mac users will not be able to access the desktop app.

Using the OpenAI app on MacOS devices is a straightforward process. Users can launch the ChatGPT app by simply pressing the ‘Option + Space’ command, which opens the app from any screen on their Mac. The native app also allows users to take screenshots of their entire screen or a specific part of it and directly load them into the app to ask questions about the content.

Furthermore, users can upload photos and file documents to ask questions. The AI chatbot will process the provided information using desktop vision and provide answers to the queries. According to a report by 9to5Mac, the app enables macOS users to easily interact with the chatbot. Additionally, a hands-free experience is available as users can interact with the app using their voice through the voice mode feature. OpenAI has also confirmed that an improved version of ChatGPT Voice Mode with GPT-4o functions will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

During the recently held WWDC 2024, Apple also announced its partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Apple devices through iOS 18, iPad OS 18, and macOS Sequoia. The announcement received a mixed response as many felt Apple would compromise the security of its users by allowing ChatGPT to access it.

ChatGPT will also be available in Apple’s writing tools so that users can generate content for anything at any time.

Moreover, OpenAI has confirmed that ChatGPT will roll out to Windows later in 2024. OpenAI said, “We had planned to start rolling this out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plan users in late June, but we need one more month to reach our bar to launch.”
