TL;DR
- OpenAI has also announced awarding 10 grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading U.S. institutions.
- The new ChatGPT Pro subscription costs $200 per month and provides access to the o1 Pro mode.
After GPT-4o (which was available for all users), OpenAI has now launched ChatGPT Pro, its most expensive consumer-grade subscription to date. Made for professionals like researchers and engineers, the ChatGPT Pro subscription lets users access the company’s most powerful computational models, which include o1, o1-mini, Advanced Voice, and o1 Pro mode.
ChatGPT Pro Costs $200 Per Month
“Today, we’re adding ChatGPT Pro, a $200 monthly plan that enables scaled Access to the best of OpenAI’s models and tools,” the company says in the official press release. Included in the subscription is the o1 Pro mode, a version of the o1 model that uses “more compute to think harder and provide even better answers” to complex queries.

The o1 Pro Mode Outperforms All Other Models In Benchmarks

In OpenAI’s own words, ChatGPT Pro is its most intelligent model; it spends more time on a problem than any other language processing model by the company and comes up with more reliable and comprehensive responses. The company has got the model’s accuracy checked by external testers, and it works well for fields like data science, programming, case law analysis, etc.
For instance, the o1 Pro mode does better than the o1 and o1-preview models in the Competition Math (AIME 2024) benchmark. Although o1 is almost as good as the o1 Pro mode in Competition Code (Codeforces), the o1 Pro mode takes back the lead in the PhD-Level Science Questions (GPQA Diamond) benchmark.
OpenAI Extends 10 Grants To Leading Medical Institutions In The U.S.
OpenAI has also announced awarding 10 grants of ChatGPT Pro to medical researchers at leading U.S. institutions, including Catherine Brownstein, who specializes in discovering new genes for rare and orphan diseases, and Justin Reese, who uses biomedical data to extract new knowledge to address human disease, and so on.

ChatGPT Might Take Longer To Generate Elaborate Answers With o1 Pro Mode

While the o1 model now takes less time to provide answers, the o1 Pro (available in the model picker) might take longer to generate elaborate responses. Hence, ChatGPT will display a progress bar for users. Further, it will also inform users when the response is ready through an in-app notification if users switch to another conversation. The ChatGPT Pro subscription will keep receiving new capabilities for more complex tasks over time.
In the near future, the company will release features like web browsing, file uploads, and multimodal processing. For now, OpenAI offers three ChatGPT tiers. First, there’s the free version that offers access to the GPT-4o model and standard voice mode. Then there’s the ChatGPT Plus model that costs $20 per month and offers extended limits on messaging with advanced voice mode.

The new ChatGPT Pro subscription sits at the top, with a monthly recurring cost of $200. Further, it includes access to GPT-40 and 01 models, along with unlimited access to advanced voice.
