From early days of the Samsung Galaxy K-zoom (2014) to the Oppo’s ingenious 5X Zoom prototype (2017), Zoom technology in smartphone cameras have come a long way. Now, as per the online leaks, especially from the trusted tipster Ice Universe, Oppo might unveil a 10x hybrid optical zoom either at the CES 2019 or MWC 2019.

The biggest catch-22 for any smartphone camera is its inability to facilitate proper optical zoom within the thin body without compromising the thickness. For optical zoom, a higher focal length between the lens and the sensor is required. However, this would lead to a camera bump. Oppo’s 10x optical zoom would be a solution to this issue.

If rumors are to be believed, the company is planning to implement this new Zoom technology in the upcoming Oppo F19/F19 Pro. If that’s the case, it would certainly grab some eyeballs. It is also pointed out in some reports that the Oppo F19 Pro could sport a triple rear camera setup. It is said to be running on an octa-core Snapdragon 675 SOC.

Oppo had showcased the world’s first 5x zoom technology with a “periscope structure” lens design during the MWC 2017. And now after two years, the company is brewing up its cutting-edge zooming technology, all set for a 2019 launch.

If everything works out well. we will have a legitimate smartphone with multi-zoom capability. Oppo F19/F19 Pro, which is touted to feature this technology would be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 675 chipset.

Smartphone photography depends on multiple factors like the quality and size of the sensors, design of the optics, and even the software algorithms. For instance, Google has done some ground-breaking innovation with its Pixel Visual core technology.

Nonetheless, the smartphone shutterbugs are looking forward to the next Mobile World Congress, wherein this technology would be showcased. Hopefully, this proves to be a better alternative to digital zoom technology.

What are your opinions on this technology and Oppo as a smartphone company? Are you too psyched like us? Let us know in the comments.
