Artificial Intelligence startup Perplexity has launched its agent-based assistant for Android devices, aiming to compete with ChatGPT, Apple’s Siri, and Amazon Alexa. Supported by Nvidia and Jeff Bezos, the Perplexity assistant is capable of interacting with other applications to perform various tasks, including making dinner reservations, requesting rides, and setting reminders, among other functionalities.

It will be accessible in 15 languages on Google’s PlayStore. This signifies Perplexity’s evolution from a mere answer engine to a fully integrated assistant capable of interacting with other applications and executing fundamental tasks on your behalf. The assistant will leverage reasoning, search capabilities, and various apps to assist with daily activities, ranging from straightforward inquiries to complex multi-app operations.

The examples provided by the company indicate that Perplexity Assistant will have the capability to search for the accurate date and time of an event and establish a reminder accordingly. Additionally, it can recognize objects through the device’s camera or on the screen.

A representative from Perplexity AI stated, “We are eager to launch our service on iOS, and we will proceed as soon as we receive the necessary permissions from Apple.” Last week, OpenAI introduced a comparable feature named Tasks for ChatGPT Team and Pro subscribers on its web platform. Additionally, both Amazon and Apple are developing enhanced versions of their current virtual assistants, which are expected to be released shortly.
