TL; DR

  • Pixel 9a’s CAD-based renders reveal a slight shift in design—mainly with the camera module.
  • The Pixel 9a will feature a 6.1” screen, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and a larger battery than the Pixel 8a.
  • It’s expected to launch in early 2025.

Google recently dropped the Pixel 9 series, and just after that, a fresh leak of the Pixel 9a surfaced. Real-life images of the Pixel 9a revealed something surprising: the iconic camera visor is completely gone.

Now, we’ve got leaked renders from @OnLeaks and Android Headline that confirm what we saw in those earlier leaks, which first popped up on a Pixel fan group on Facebook and then spread to X (formerly Twitter) via Shrimp Apple Pro.

The renders show the Pixel 9a in black, and it’s clear the camera bump is gone, making for a sleek, but somewhat unusual, look for a Pixel device. One odd detail is that the positions of the speaker and SIM card tray have been swapped, and the renders confirm this change.

Interestingly, the Pixel 9a might launch earlier than we thought, especially since the Pixel 9 series also dropped ahead of schedule. While the Pixel 8a was announced in May 2024, rumors suggest the 9a could show up by late 2024 or early 2025.

And yes, it will be coming with Android 15 out of the box. Even more impressive, it’s set to receive seven years of updates—the same as the rest of the Pixel 9 series.

Under the hood, we’re expecting the Tensor G4 chip, with a slightly bigger battery compared to the 4500 mAh-ish in the Pixel 8a—possibly hitting 4700 mAh or more. The display is said to remain at 6.1 inches, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. As for colors, leaks suggest four options, including black and silver.
