  • The update also includes additional features that improve the overall gaming experience of users.
  • Sony’s blog post also reminds users that cloud streaming requires at least 5 Mbps of speed for a stable connection; higher speeds provide better gameplay quality.

As of November 6, 7:30 AM IST, Sony has launched a major update for the PlayStation Portal — one that officially enables cloud streaming of PS5 games on the device. The update allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream select digital PS5 games from their library on the PS5 without a linked PS5 console.

In addition to the library, the update includes hundreds of titles from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and the Classics Catalogue, now streamable.

Some of the PS5 digital games explicitly mentioned as supposed at launch include Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. Other games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue that support cloud streaming include Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarok, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.

Sony’s blog post also reminds users that cloud streaming requires at least 5 Mbps of speed for a stable connection; higher speeds provide better gameplay quality. Thanks to the update, PlayStation Portal users will now be able to stream their favorite video games while traveling or even when someone else is using their PS5.

Limitations Still Apply

This marks a significant shift in how the PlayStation Portal is positioned. It was launched initially as a remote-play-only device in 2023, and it’s now stepping closer to a standalone streaming handheld.

  • To talk about the downsides, the streaming update still requires a PlayStation Plus Premium membership.
  • The Portal is still a streaming-only device, and its experience depends on the available internet bandwidth.

Moreover, the update elevates the beta to a full release, with broader game support and additional features.
