Qualcomm has announced Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 at Snapdragon Summit 2026. The new platform is built for earbuds, headphones and glasses that can run AI without sending every task to a phone.
Qualcomm wants these devices to do more than play music or take calls. They can use AI on the device, connect to the cloud and, in some cases, use cameras to understand what is around the user.
More AI Without Using More Power
Qualcomm says Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 can handle up to twice as much AI work as the previous generation. It also uses 40% less power and takes up 30% less space. The chip supports low-power Wi-Fi 6E, so compatible earbuds and glasses can connect to the internet without using a phone as the middleman.
Qualcomm is also building the platform for devices with cameras. A pair of glasses could use its camera to see something in front of the user and give the AI more context. Qualcomm is pitching this for things like understanding the surroundings rather than simply taking photos. That also means privacy will become a bigger concern once these devices reach the market.

Better Audio and Voice
The platform supports aptX Lossless and Qualcomm’s XPAN technology, which extends the range of wireless audio. It also gets a new ANC system and an updated microphone setup called Audio Sense Solution. Qualcomm says this should help the device pick up your voice more clearly during calls and AI interactions.
Cleer has already shown a concept device using Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2. The device combines audio, a camera and AI, but it is still a concept and isn’t a product you can buy yet.
Qualcomm hasn’t announced when the first commercial earbuds or glasses using the new platform will arrive. The actual products will show how well these AI features work in real world and that shouldn’t take too long.
