Leading chipmaker Qualcomm is on a roll during the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2024. The brand has made some huge announcements about products that will integrate Artificial Intelligence better into the ecosystem. The company took to the stage to showcase Qualcomm AI Hub, Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 5G Modem, and Snapdragon FastConnect 7900 chip for WiFi 7 connectivity. Let us know more about these three announcements in detail

Qualcomm AI Hub

Qualcomm AI Hub is a library of 75+ AI Models that have been optimized for Qualcomm and Snapdragon platforms. These models include Baichuan 7B, Stable Diffusion, Whisper, ControlNet, etc.

The AI Hub will allow quicker and easier connection of on-device AI Models within the developer’s apps. The integration will be successful using a few lines of code on cloud-hosted devices. This will give a better AI performance with less power consumption and low memory utilization.

These AI models which are currently available on Hugging Face, Github, and Qualcomm AI Hub will be joined by new AI models with support for newer platforms soon.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 5G Modem

After announcing X75 5G Mode, Qualcomm is back with the next Snapdragon X80 5G Modem. It is the world’s first 5G modem with fully integrated NB-NTN satellite communications support. This means smartphone companies will not need a separate chip for satellite connectivity.

The X80 5G modem comes with a six-antenna architecture for phones, 6x carrier aggregation for the sub-6GHz band, and AI-powered mmWave range extension for fixed wireless access customer premise equipment. Qualcomm has equipped it with a tensor accelerator for better latency, power efficiency, quality of service, spectrum efficiency, and more. Location accuracy has been increased by 30% and time taken for cell selection is reduced by up to 20%.

The modem claims to give a peak download speed of 10Gbps and top upload speed of 3.5Gbps. The modem will be available as a part of commercial devices in the second half of 2024.

Qualcomm FastConnect 7900

Qualcomm has also announced a mobile connectivity chip that will integrate WiFi 7, Bluetooth, and Ultra Wideband. FastConnect 7900 is the world’s first system to be able to achieve this three-way connectivity.

Just like the other two launches, this one is AI-powered as well. It can adapt to varied surroundings to give top-notch connectivity with seamless network latency and lower power consumption. Technologies like WiFi Ranging, Bluetooth Channel Sounding, and UWB are present for better proximity awareness of devices like smart tags, car keys, and more.

FastConnect 7900 supports WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and WiFi 7 with a maximum speed of 5.8Gbps. It is claimed to consume 40% less power and will be compatible with Bluetooth 5.4, spatial audio, ANT+, and aptX audio.
