Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon X2 Plus Chip for Affordable AI-Powered Windows Laptops

At the CES 2026, Qualcomm has introduced a new mid-range chip in the Snapdragon X lineup: the Snapdragon X2 Plus. It is designed to offer powerful performance and solid on-device AI processing to more affordable Windows laptops.

The Snapdragon X2 Plus delivers up to 35% faster CPU performance while consuming about 43% less power (likely compared to the regular Snapdragon X2 chip), improving overall efficiency and battery life for Windows on Arm laptops.

Snapdragon X2 Plus Brings Up To 80 TOPS Of On-Device AI Performance

The chipset will be available in both six-core and 10-core configurations, making it a suitable option for both thin-and-light notebooks and performance laptops. Alongside the powerful CPU, the processor includes an 80 TOPS NPU for on-device AI workloads and Copilot+ capabilities. Connectivity options on the chipset include Wi-Fi 7, 5G (optional).

The technical specifications of the new Snapdragon X2 Plus processor are given below.

  • CPU Architecture: Qualcomm 3rd-generation Oryon CPU cores (ARM-based)
  • Core Options: 10-core (X2P-64-100) and 6-core (X2P-42-100) configurations
  • Maximum Clock Speed: Up to approximately 4.0 GHz
  • GPU: Integrated Adreno X2-45 GPU — up to ~1.7 GHz on the 10-core variant and ~0.9 GHz on the 6-core variant
  • NPU (AI): Qualcomm Hexagon NPU delivering up to 80 TOPS of on-device AI performance
  • Process Node: TSMC 3 nm-class manufacturing process
  • Memory Support: LPDDR5x high-bandwidth memory
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, with optional 5G via external modem
  • Display Support: Capable of driving high-resolution, high-refresh-rate displays (OEM-dependent, including multi-display setups)
  • Security Features: Snapdragon Guardian hardware and software security suite
  • Target Use Case: Mid-range Windows 11 Copilot+ laptops focused on affordable AI-powered computing

Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon X2 Plus will be available in mid-range Windows 11 laptops in early 2026. The laptops could cost between $799 and $1,299. If major PC OEMs adopt the new processor, they could launch their Windows laptops in the first half of 2026. However, the company hasn’t specified their names in the official press release.
