Rated at 6A, this smart three-pin socket is designed to add smarts to simple home appliances and is significantly cheaper than Amazon Smart Plug. So, should you buy it? Let’s answer that in our Realme Smart Plug review.

What devices are compatible with Realme Smart Plug?
Realme Smart plug is a 6A plug, so you can use it with all small home appliances, single door refrigerators, TVs, Air purifiers, Table lamps, and even for up to 1.5HP pumps or motors.
You can not use Realme Smart Plug for heavy-duty appliances. Power plugs needed for ACs and Geysers are generally rated at 16A and 25A.
Realme Smart Plug review: Design and Connectivity
Realme’s smart plug is a blocky three-pin socket with a flat on/off button on the bottom edge and an LED indicator at the front. It’s significantly more compact than Amazon’s Smart plug and doesn’t block the second plug in our two-socket boards.
Realme uses 750-degree flame-retardant material and adds other required safeguards including 2000v surge protection, overheat protection, and safety shutters for kids.
For now, it’s available only in white.
The plug connects over single-band 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, but that’s perfectly fine because your phone or other controlling devices don’t have to be on the same network to control it.
Set up is quite simple. Just follow the instructions in the Realme Link app. This one works with both Google Assistant and Alexa dashboards and voice commands.
Realme Smart Plug, however, doesn’t support IFTTT and doesn’t work with Apple devices.
How to add Realme Smart Plug to Google Home?
Once you have linked the Plug via the Realme Link app, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Google Home app and tap on the + button on the top-right corner.
Step 2: Now select ‘Set up device’ option
Step 3: On the next screen tap on “Have something already setup” option as shown in the image.
Step 4: Now search for Realme Link and tap on it. Authorize and login via Realme Link in the browser window and you are done.
Step 5: Your Realme Smart Plug will show up in Google home. You can now add it to any specific room in your house.
We recommend you edit the device name to smart plug or anything less wordy than ‘Realme smart plug’ if you need to often turn the switch on or off via Google Assistant voice commands.
How to use Realme Smart Plug with Amazon Alexa and Echo Devices
To integrate Realme Smart plug in Amazon ecosystem, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone and go to the device section
Step 2: Now tap on “your smart home skills” and then on “Enable new Skill”
Step 3: Search for ‘Realme Link’ and activate the skill.
The Realme Smart plug will show up in your linked devices automatically after some time. You can further make it a part of any Alexa Routines.
Realme Smart Plug review: Performance and experience
The Realme Smart Plug works reliably. You can turn it on/off using Google Assistant or Alexa but options to schedule on/of and for timers can be accessed only in the Realme Link app.
The plug gets heated even when no device is connected. This is something we have also noticed with Oakter smart plugs without any long term impact.
Schedule and timer options for smart plugs are what makes them useful. During our testing, we scheduled the plug to power on and start charging my phone 1 hour before my wake-up time. This way I could wake-up with 100-percent charging without any impact on long-term battery health.
We also used the plug to schedule and to remotely turn on my Air purifier which is smart yet doesn’t reliably turn on using the proprietary app.
The most effective use for the smart plug is to automate devices that you need to switch on and off at set intervals on a regular basis. For instance, using it to schedule 1HP water pump to run for 30 minutes automatically during supply hours in the morning was helpful.
Realme Smart Plug review: Verdict
Realme Smart Plug is a simple device and it works reliably. Realme has the needed safety guards in place, the plug has a hard On/Off button, and fits well in both Google and Amazon’s smart home ecosystems.
If you need to remotely control or schedule small home appliances, this one gets the job done and doesn’t cost much. If you need to control larger appliances like geysers and ACs, look for 16A options.
