Renault Duster 2026 Roundup: Table of Contents
Renault has confirmed the return of the all-new Duster to India. The big reveal is set for January 26, 2026, and it’s hardly two months away. Based on the global Dacia, the upcoming Duster will bring a much sharper design, a more premium interior, and a modern electronics stack.
The vehicle will arrive as a competitively placed version with turbocharged petrol engines, multiple hearbox options, and a heavy localisation push. However, in this brutally competitive compact-SUV market, the Duster’s success will depend on pricing, variant strategy, and local feature parity.

Renault Duster 2026: Design & Exterior
The new Duster adopts Renault’s contemporary design language, characterized by a sharper look, wider stance, sculpted wheel arches, and LED signature lighting with more pronounced bumper detailing. As seen in the spy pictures, the production-ready car could feature large alloy wheels and a rugged lower cladding package.
However, if you don’t want to wait for the Indian variant, the globally available Dacia features a boxy stance, with a muscular front bumper, a blacked-out grill in the front that houses the company’s lettering, DRLs, and the new headlamp setup, below which are the air vents, the chunky cladding at the bottom, and blacked-out air intakes.
At least in pictures, the Dacia looks much more muscular than the Creta, Sierra, or the inbound Mahindra XUV 5XO. Moreover, Renault seems to be keeping the Duster’s traditional tough SUV cues while lifting perceived quality.
Renault Duster 2026: Interior & Cabin Features
Just like its exterior, the Duster will offer multitudes of upgrades on the inside. We’re talking about integrated infotainment systems, a digital driver cluster, and cleaner switchgear compared with the old Duster. The vehicle is rumored to feature a triple-screen infotainment system, similar to those on the Mahindra XEV 9e and the upcoming Tata Sierra.
While buyers are already familiar with features like large touchscreens with smartphone mirroring (including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), connected car tech, automatic (even dual-zone) climate control, wireless charging, ventilated seats, and a tilt/telescopic adjustable steering wheel with media and ADAS controls, the Duster must offer them along with a couple of unique features to create its space in the market.
Having a sunroof could be critical for the upcoming Duster, as the competition offers them from the second base models.

Renault Duster 2026: Powertrain Options
Even though Renault has not published or confirmed the final specifications of the Duster’s Indian powertrain, multiple industry sources converge on a likely option.
- The mid-sized SUV could debut in India with a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine producing 156PS and 250Nm, paired with a six-speed manual or a CVT/automatic transmission for convenience-oriented buyers.
- There are also rumors that the entry-level trims might feature the company’s 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine mated to a manual transmission. However, I’m skeptical that the smaller engine would provide enough power and responsiveness to make the Duster fun to drive.
- Given the car’s off-road history, there are rumors that Renault could launch a 4×4 (all-wheel-drive) drivetrain option, perhaps on the top trim.
Unfortunately, the upcoming Duster won’t offer a diesel engine at launch. Looks like Renault is moving forward with a petrol-first approach.
Renault Duster 2026: Safety Features
The Indian-spec version of the Dacia Duster should feature multiple safety features, including six airbags as standard, ABC, ESC, hill-start/hill-descent assists, and ADAS features in higher trims. The passive safety features, such as the structural strength of the chassis, the quality of the steel used in the frame, and the overall crashworthiness of the vehicle, should also be good if Renault wants to compete with rivals like the Tata Sierra.
The Duster 2026 should also come with driver-assistance features such as lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and off-road display readouts in the top variants.

Renault Duster 2026: Release Timeline & Production
Renault India has confirmed the launch of the Duster 2026. The vehicle will break cover on January 26, 2026 (also celebrated as Republic Day in India). Given that the brand is returning to India with the once-popular Duster, it will likely manufacture the vehicle locally (or otherwise the price would go through the roof). Anyway, supply localization will play a key role in final pricing and feature availability.
Renault Duster 2026: Expected Pricing
Before commenting on the expected pricing of the Renault Duster 2026, let’s have a look at the starting price of its closest competitor.

- Maruti Grand Vitara Sigma Petrol: Rs. 10.77 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Did you catch the pattern? The starting price of all competitors to the Renault Duster 2026 (especially the Creta) is between Rs. 10.50 and Rs. 11.00 lakhs. While these are the ex-showroom prices of the aforementioned cars, the on-road price (varying by state of purchase) ranges from Rs. 12.50 to 13 lakhs. Furthermore, base models remain among the best-selling for these cars.
If Renault wants the Duster to succeed in India, it might want to keep the pricing competitive. An introductory price for the base model, around Rs. 10 lakh, could do wonders for the company. Anyway, the base variant, if priced higher than the competition, wouldn’t gain as much traction as the well-established models.

My Assessment: Optimistic… But Cautious
There are plenty of things that the upcoming Duster is doing right. A modern compact SUV look, an improved in-cabin feel, and a reliable engine could help the brand get the vehicles out of the stockyards and onto the roads. The company’s local manufacturing push and the launch of the car on Republic Day are strong signals.
However, I remain skeptical about the pricing and variant packaging, as they will determine whether this is a nostalgia-led blip or a re-entry into the hot compact SUV market in India. Amid this, the absence of a diesel or hybrid powertrain could disappoint economy-driven buyers.
