My Review of Saiyaara: A Tale of Love that Breaks You…Only to Ignite Hope

“Saiyaara Tu toh badla nahi hai… Mausam zara sa rootha hua hai”. Starting my review of Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara with this line from the title song, because this is where the soul of the film is trapped. It is a tale of two misfits, Vani Batra and Krish Kapoor, who meet each other with huge baggage of their pasts, only to realize that they are the ones who can heal each other, too.
Vani and Krish, completely opposite in nature, come together to create music.. Or I might say magic, as it is his voice and her words against the world. Slowly but steadily, a friendship is formed, leading to them confiding in each other about their pasts. No matter how far they try to go… Their feelings bring them closer than ever before until destiny decides to be cruel to the lovers once again. Will Vani and Krish be able to find each other, or is their love story doomed? Forms the crux of the story.
Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda are the best debutants I have seen in the last few years in Bollywood. They play their characters with integrity and conviction, and their chemistry feels natural onscreen. Mohit Suri is the master of love stories, and he has managed to weave his wand once again.
Special mention to the soundtrack of the film… Which doesn’t merely include songs… But gems that hold the narrative together. ‘Dhun’ by Arijit Singh is slow poison, while ‘barbaad’ by Jubin Nautiyal shows Krish’s hesitance to love. ‘Humsafar’ by Sachet Parampara captures the growing bond between Krish and Vani, while ‘tum ho toh’ by Vishal Mishra is their love anthem. The highlight is “Saiyaara”, the title track by Faheem Abdullah, which gives goosebumps, and its female version by Shreya is equally melodious.
After a long hiatus, I watched a Bollywood film that was a fulfilling cinematic experience on screen.
