5G variant of Samsung’s Galaxy A71 recently went through Tena certification, hinting at an imminent launch. Based on the listing, the phone will be similar to the Galaxy A71 that we are familiar with in India, save for a 5G chipset – Exynos 980 – on board.

The Exynos 980 is a dual-mode 5G chip with an integrated 5G modem that we have earlier seen on Vivo and Oppo phones. The chipset should help Samsung pitch A71 against Snapdragon 765-powered mid-range phones in relevant markets.

Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Features

The 5G variant is expected to retain the design of the 4G model, which is also one of the slimmest and lightest of the contemporary phones. It’ll still be a markedly ‘big phone’ with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and a 4500mAh battery.

The Exynos 980 that powers the phone is quite an interesting chipset. It’s manufactured on Samsung’s 8nm LPP process and is the first to employ 2x Cortex-A77 cores (expected to bring in 25-30% peak performance improvements over Cortex-A76 cores).

The other 6 cores in the power cluster are still Cortex-A55 based, though. The SoC also has a dedicated NPU, Mali G76 GPU, and supports up to 108MP cameras. The Galaxy A71 5G will, however, stick to the more conventional 64MP sensor in the lead.

Samsung Galaxy A71 Review

As mentioned above, the 5G modem supports both NSA and SA architecture. There is no mmWave support, but that shouldn’t be a problem for a mid-range chip.

Other notable highlights include 64MP quad-camera system, in-display fingerprint sensor (optical), 12MP selfie camera, and Android 10-based OneUI 2.0 software.

Will Samsung Galaxy A71 5G launch in India?

All Samsung phones launched in India this year, including the Galaxy S20-series are 4G-LTE only devices. So, we don’t expect the 5G variant of Galaxy A71 to launch in India.
