Satellite Connectivity for Galaxy S23+

A report by ET News claims that Samsung has been working with Iridium Communications for bringing satellite connectivity to the Galaxy S23 Series. The company is claimed to be working on using the new feature to provide text messaging and low-resolution image-sharing support for the Galaxy S23 via satellite connectivity. The main issue lies in building an antenna that is smaller in size and effective in smartphones.

If Samsung succeeds then it will be the 2nd smartphone brand to introduce satellite connectivity. Apple recently made the feature available on iPhone 14 line-up. Although the service is only available in Canada and US as of now it is expected to roll out to other countries as well. Huawei might be the 3rd brand to bring this feature to its devices. For now, it will be interesting to see if Samsung succeeds in bringing satellite connectivity to Galaxy S23 Series and if yes, then how the brand will make the feature accessible to a broad set of users.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series: Expected specs & features

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is expected to pack a 3900mAh battery while the S23+ might pack a larger 4700mAh battery. The ultra model will have a 5000mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless fast charging. As for the camera optics, the Galaxy S23 & S23+ might have a 50MP main, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto lens. While the Galaxy S23 Ultra is said to have a quad camera setup with a 200MP main, a 12MP ultrawide, a 10MP telephoto, and a 10MP periscope lens.

All the 3 devices will run Android 13-based One UI 5.0 out of the box. They will have a 32MP selfie camera as well. In terms of display, there will be differences. This is because the Galaxy S23 might have a 6.1-inch FHD+ display while the Galaxy S23+ may have a 6.6-inch panel. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will have a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel. All 3 are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate and be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
