Tech giant Samsung might bring back the Exynos chipset for its upcoming flagship Galaxy S24 Series. While the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series was powered by Snapdragon chipsets, the upcoming Galaxy S24 lineup might see a return of Exynos SoCs, at least in some specific regions.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is also expected to get major upgrades in terms of camera, chipset, display, and more. The series is said to launch in February 2024 and include 3 models- Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Exynos 2400 Chipset: Expected features

Latest reports claim that the Exynos 2400 SoC will power select Galaxy S24 smartphones for regions like Africa, Europe, and parts of Asia. The chipset is made using an improved version of Samsung Foundry’s 4nm fabrication process which now boasts a 75% yield rate. It is on par with the yield rates of TSMC’s 4nm process.

The Exynos 2400 chipset is expected to feature a 10-core CPU configuration, including a high-performance Cortex X4 core clocked at 3.1GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.9GHz, three Cortex A-720 cores clocked at 2.6Ghz and 4 Cortex A520 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It will ensure a harmonious blend of power and efficiency.

The chipset might be compatible with UFS 2.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM with a substantial bandwidth of 8.5Gbps. The chip will have an ISP built into it capable of handling camera sensors with resolutions of up to 320MP and support video recording at resolutions of up to 8k at 60fps.

In terms of connectivity, the Exynos 2400 will have an Exynos 5300 modem, supporting 5G networks with up to 10Gbps maximum downlink speeds. It is compatible with mmWave and sub-6Ghz networks, ensuring versatile connectivity options.

As for graphics, the SoC will have Xclipse 940 GPU with 12 GPU cores, potentially offering double the graphics performance of its predecessor, the Exynos 2200.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Expectations

Leaks claim that Samsung is planning to ditch curved displays in favor of flat screens. Tipster Ice Universe posted an image showing the device will have a bit of phablet design and the bezels on the display will be the same as the 2023 model. There might also be a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout on the front of a selfie camera. Peak brightness is expected to be 2500 nits for Galaxy S24 Ultra. The ultra model will reportedly have a 6.78-inch panel with 1440×3120 pixel resolution.

Talking about camera upgrades, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra might get a telephoto lens. The back camera is expected to include a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The current Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with a 10MP telephoto camera featuring the same 3x optical zoom functionality. The new phones are expected to get titanium frames which would be a departure from aluminum chassis on previous models.
