Samsung just launched its foldable lineup for 2025, and it is looking solid. A total of three devices were launched at the Unpacked, including the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and the all-new Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. The Z Fold7 is thinner and lighter than its predecessor and not just that but it is also the world’s lighest the second thinnest book-style foldable. The Z Flip7, though, not only gets thinner, but also gets massive upgrades.
These are my hands-on impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, and holding it felt like clutching a pocket-sized marvel. At just 188 grams, it’s only 1 gram heavier than the Galaxy Z Flip6 (187g) despite packing a bigger battery and a larger, edge-to-edge FlexWindow or cover screen.
This clamshell foldable is Samsung’s slimmest yet, outshining competitors like the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra with its razor-thin bezels and flat, vibrant cover screen. With a larger cover screen, a new processor, larger battery, thinner design, and a suite of AI upgrades, the Z Flip7 takes the Flip6’s formula and dials it up to eleven. Let’s take a closer look.
Design

Right off the bat, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is a stunner. Folded, it measures 75.2 x 85.5 x 13.7 mm, a full 1.2 mm thinner than the Z Flip6’s 14.9 mm (which was already thinner than the Razr 60 Ultra by the way), making it the slimmest Galaxy Z Flip yet.
Unfolded, it’s 75.2 x 166.7 x 6.5 mm, shaving 0.4 mm off the Z Flip6’s 6.9 mm. This makes it much thinner than the Razr 60 Ultra 7.19 mm thick body. At 188 grams, it’s nearly identical to the Z Flip6 but feels impossibly light for its beefed-up specs. And if you are wondering, the Razr 60 Ultra is a whole 11 grams heavier than the Flip7.

The Armor FlexHinge is thinner and smoother than the Z Flip6’s, with a restructured design and high-strength materials that reduce the crease and enhance durability. The frame uses Armor Aluminum, and both the cover screen and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, same as the Z Flip6.
Available in Blue Shadow, Jet-black, Coral-red, and an online-exclusive Mint, it’s a head-turner. The IP48 water resistance (same as last year) ensures durability, and in hand, it feels compact, solid, and luxurious. The gap when folded is virtually gone, a noticeable improvement over the Z Flip6’s slight gap, and the crease is less prominent.
Display(s)

The 4.1” Super AMOLED FlexWindow or the cover screen (1048 x 948) is a massive upgrade, 0.7” larger than the Z Flip6’s 3.4” cover screen. It’s now edge-to-edge with some of the thinnest bezels I’ve ever seen, way sleeker than the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra’s thick, curved bezels.

The edge-to-edge display (ditching the Z Flip6’s folder-style shape) looks stunning and modern, with a 60/120 Hz refresh rate (up from 60 Hz) and new 2,600 Nits peak brightness (matching the main screen). New Vision Booster enhances outdoor visibility, and content optimization feels smoother, though some apps still need tweaking.
The 6.9” FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display (2520 x 1080, 21:9) is 0.2” larger than the Z Flip6’s 6.7” panel, with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2,600 Nits brightness. The larger main screen and improved hinge make the crease less noticeable, though it’s still there. Overall, both displays look stunning.
Hardware

The Z Flip7 is powered by the new Exynos 2500, a 3nm chip with a more powerful CPU, GPU, and NPU than the Z Flip6’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It’s Samsung’s first Exynos in a Flip, optimized for AI tasks. It comes in two variants:
- 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage
- 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage
The new vapor cooling system is larger than the Z Flip6’s, keeping things cool during heavy tasks. And finally, for the first time on the Flip, Samsung DeX is here. It turns the Z Flip7 into a workstation when connected to a screen. This was possible thanks to the Exynos chip and the larger vapor cooling system.
Connectivity includes 5G, LTE, new Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth v5.4, with one Nano SIM and multi-eSIM support (market-dependent). Sensors include a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyro, geomagnetic, hall, proximity, and light sensors. In my brief hands-on, it felt zippy and responsive.
Cameras

The Z Flip7’s camera system is a standout, matching the Z Flip6’s 50 MP main sensor but with enhanced AI. Here’s the full setup:
- 50 MP Wide-angle, f/1.8, 1.0μm, 85° FOV, Dual Pixel AF, OIS
- 12 MP Ultra-wide, f/2.2, 1.12μm, 123° FOV
- 10 MP Front Camera, f/2.2, 1.12μm, 85° FOV
The 50 MP sensor, paired with the new ProVisual Engine, can deliver crisper, vibrant images, as per Samsung. New Enhanced Nightography improves low-light shots with better lighting adjustments and noise reduction.
New 10-bit HDR adds richer color and contrast to videos. The Real-Time Filters let you preview FlexCam shots on the FlexWindow, and a new Zoom Slider makes zooming seamless. The Dual Preview shows the composition on both screens, perfect for group selfies.
The Portrait Studio in Photo Assist offers Comic, 3D Cartoon, Fisheye, and Professional styles, while new Generative Edit with Suggest Erases auto-removes distractions. The FlexWindow’s larger size makes selfie previews pop, outshining the Z Flip6’s smaller cover screen.
Software

The Z Flip7 runs new One UI 8 on Android 16, a major step up from the Z Flip6’s One UI 6.1.1 on Android 14, with seven years of OS and security updates (until 2032). This is the first time that Samsung has ever debuted a new version of its One UI software on a foldable device.
One UI 8 brings multimodal AI optimized for the Flip’s design, with many tasks now doable on the FlexWindow. New Gemini Live lets you search with voice or camera on the cover screen (e.g., checking flight details or restaurant recommendations).
The Now Bar shows real-time app activity (rideshare ETAs, music playback, sports scores) with expanded third-party app support. The Now Brief is also here and it delivers personalized updates (traffic, calendar, Samsung Health data).
There’s a new lockscreen clock that adapts to wallpapers, wrapping around faces or objects. It looks so cool.
Security includes Samsung Knox, Knox Vault, and new Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP) for app-specific encrypted storage, plus new post-quantum cryptography for Secure Wi-Fi.
Battery and Charging

The Z Flip7 now has a larger 4,300 mAh dual-cell battery, up from the Z Flip6’s 4,000 mAh. It supports 25W wired charging, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and Wireless PowerShare. I didn’t test battery life in this hands-on, but the larger capacity is a welcome upgrade for the bigger displays.
Pricing
The Galaxy Z Flip7 comes in two variants:
- 12 GB + 256 GB: ₹1,09,999/$1,099
- 12 GB + 512 GB: ₹1,21,999/$1,219
Pre-orders start July 9, 2025, with availability from July 25. Perks include Samsung Care+, new New Galaxy Club, and new six months of free Google AI Pro with 2 TB cloud storage.
My Thoughts

The Galaxy Z Flip7 is a pocket-sized powerhouse. The edge-to-edge 4.1” FlexWindow with ultra-thin bezels blows the Z Flip6’s 3.4” screen out of the water and makes the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra’s thick bezels look dated. The 50 MP camera, larger battery, One UI 8, and new AI features like Gemini Live and Now Bar make it a productivity and selfie champ.
It’s also thinner and only 1 gram heavier than last year, despite packing a larger display and battery. Holding the Z Flip7 is a great experience. It’s a compact foldable that outshines its predecessor and rivals alike. Stay tuned for our full review of the Z Flip7, coming soon!
