TL; DR
  • A new leak from Ice Universe suggests the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will keep the Galaxy Z Fold7’s 215g weight while increasing battery capacity to 5,000 mAh.
  • The device is also tipped to support 45W wired charging and could be slightly thinner than the Fold7 when unfolded.
  • Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8 in July.

Battery capacity has been one of the most common criticisms of Samsung’s Fold lineup over the past few generations. While competitors have moved toward 5,000 mAh batteries and beyond, Samsung has largely stuck with smaller cells in favor of thinner and lighter designs.

That could change with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. According to information shared by Ice Universe, Samsung is preparing to increase battery capacity to 5,000 mAh while keeping the phone at roughly the same 215g weight as the Galaxy Z Fold7.

Slightly Thinner Chassis Also Expected

The leak suggests a thinner profile when the device is unfolded. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is reportedly targeting a thickness of around 4.1mm in its open state, making it marginally slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold7.

Most other dimensions are expected to remain familiar. Earlier leaks and dummy-unit photos suggest Samsung is reserving the major design changes for the standard Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Ultra model continues with the taller Fold form factor that existing users already know.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra changes how I think about foldables. Samsung doesn’t dwell on trade-offs for that big 8-inch screen. Instead, it shows what you can actually do with it. The titanium case is just 4.1mm thick when open. It’s lighter than most top-end phones, so nothing feels sacrificed. This year, Samsung didn’t just …
