TL; DR
  • Ice Universe claims the Galaxy Z Fold8 will weigh just 201g, making it lighter than the 214g Galaxy S26 Ultra despite being a foldable.
  • The wider foldable is also tipped to measure 4.5mm when unfolded and feature a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • Other rumored specs include a 4,800 mAh battery, 45W charging, a 50MP main camera, and a significantly reduced display crease.

Samsung’s upcoming wide-format foldable, expected to launch as the Galaxy Z Fold8, has surfaced in a series of new leaks from Ice Universe. The latest information gives us a clearer picture of Samsung’s strategy for the device, including its weight, dimensions, battery, and display.

The biggest detail is the weight. According to the leak, the Galaxy Z Fold8 will come in at just 201 grams. If accurate, that would make it 13 grams lighter than the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which weighs 214 grams, despite the Fold8 featuring a folding display and hinge mechanism.

Lighter Than Many Traditional Flagships

Foldables have traditionally carried a weight penalty because of their dual-screen design and hinge systems. A 201g weight would put the Galaxy Z Fold8 among the lightest book-style foldables on the market.

For comparison, Huawei’s Pura X Max, which uses a similar wide-screen approach, weighs 229 grams. Even Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold7 weighed 215 grams last year.

Samsung appears to be targeting users who want a foldable that feels much closer to a regular smartphone in daily use while still offering a larger tablet-like display when opened.

Wider Screen, Thicker Body

Ice Universe also claims the Galaxy Z Fold8 will measure 4.5mm when unfolded. That’s slightly thicker than the 4.2mm Galaxy Z Fold7, but still thinner than Huawei’s Pura X Max, which measures 5.2mm.

The wider design is expected to bring a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. Earlier dummy-unit leaks already showed the Fold8 adopting a much wider and shorter form factor compared to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.

The leak also mentions a noticeably reduced display crease, something similar to what we have seen on the OPPO Find N6. On the camera side, the device is expected to feature a 50MP primary sensor with native support for Samsung’s 24MP shooting mode.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 during its July 2026 Galaxy Unpacked event.
