At its Galaxy MWC Virtual Event, Samsung showcased its version of the newly-formed Tizen-Wear OS Unified Interface between it and Google. This is of course called One UI for Watch and is a skin on top of the so-called Wear platform. The company revealed some key software highlights and enhancements as part of this One UI smartwatch experience including a Watchface design tool.

Let’s see what the new One UI for Watch improvements are and which all smartwatches are likely to get it.

Samsung One UI for Watch features

Samsung says “the new interface is designed to make the Galaxy Watch and smartphone experience more deeply connected”. So, now when you install a watch-compatible app on your phone, that will automatically install on your watch. Likewise, the changes you make to time and call/message-blocking settings on your phone will be applied on your watch too.

With this new partnership, the company envisions a bigger and broader Google Play Store of apps for its users. This would include popular names like Adidas Running, Golfbuddy Smart Caddie, Strava, Swim.com, Calm, Sleep Cycle, Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Maps, and more.

The One UI for Watch will also sport a new watch face design tool, that will enable developers/designers to create, customize, and share beautiful watch faces. These mean more ways to personalize the watch fascia to ones likes.

Speaking at the event, Sameer Samat, Vice President of Product Management, Android and Wear, Google said the new software will bring longer battery life and faster performance. At Google I/O, Mr. Samat had claimed 30% faster load times, improved battery life, access to Play Store apps right from the watch, more tile customization options, better navigation, and improved features across popular apps on this new platform.

Samsung One UI for Watch availability

The new Galaxy Watch will be the first to get the new One UI Watch update later this summer. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4 at a Galaxy Unpacked event in early August. So, stay tuned for that.
