Earlier this year, the Korean tech giant Samsung revealed Galaxy AI features on the flagship Galaxy S24 series. Initially, the features were exclusive to the company’s latest smartphones. However, with time, Samsung has rolled them out to older devices, like the Galaxy S23 series, the S22 series, the Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 5, the Tab S9 series, and so on.

Most recently, the company announced Galaxy AI features for even older models – the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3. However, unlike other smartphones, these models won’t get all the Galaxy AI features.

Samsung introduces 'Circle to Search' AI feature; How To Use?

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy Z foldables from 2021 will receive a One UI 6.1 update. The OTA update will introduce Galaxy AI to these smartphones (but not at its best). Per Samsung’s official press release, these smartphones will get two Galaxy AI features: Circle to Search and Chat Assist.

Like some previous communications from the company, the release indicates that the Galaxy AI features will be available for free on smartphones until the end of 2025. However, whether Samsung will put a price on its AI-based features depends on how the market is treating them. Later this year, we’ll see Apple foray into the mobile AI space and launch several novel features for its users with iOS 18. If the company launches those features for free, Samsung would have to extend the trial period.

What Is Circle To Search?

Circle to Search is a visual look-up tool that uses AI and Google Search to recognize the content selected by users and return similar images or search results. The best part about the feature is that it appears on top of the app the user is working on, allowing them to continue from where they left. We’ve explained the feature in detail in a separate guide, so consider going through that if you need more information about how it works and what you can do with it.

What Is Chat Assist?

Samsung Chat Assist

Chat Assist, on the other hand, allows users to write/translate text in different languages. The AI-enabled feature can check grammar and spelling, rewrite messages in different styles, and suggest phrases, stickers, and other things that can help with text messaging (even on third-party apps).

A Majority Of Galaxy AI Features Won’t Be Available On The Older Smartphones

This brings us to the list of Galaxy AI features that won’t make it to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Z Fold/Flip 3. These include the following.

  • AI Wallpaper
  • Edit Suggestion
  • Generative Edit
  • Browsing Assist
  • Transcript Assist
  • Note Assist
  • Live Translate
