If latest tweet from reliable tipster Ice Universe is anything to go by Samsung is planning to maintain the use of its 200MP ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor across both the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Contrary to earlier rumors suggesting a potential upgrade from a 3x telephoto camera to a 5x telephoto camera in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it appears that Samsung will not be implementing this change. Instead, only the 10x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to undergo an upgrade.

The continuity in using the same camera sensor for multiple years seems to be a recurring trend for Samsung, reminiscent of its approach with the 108MP camera employed in the Galaxy S20 Ultra (review), Galaxy S21 Ultra (review), and Galaxy S22 Ultra (review).

In contrast, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max is speculated to adopt a 1/1.14-inch 48MP camera sensor sourced from Sony. This sensor’s performance is purportedly comparable to the 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor utilized by several prominent Chinese brands, such as OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Such a move, if realized, could potentially position not only Chinese brands but even Apple ahead of Samsung in terms of camera specifications, presenting a notable challenge for Samsung in the realm of optics.

Ice universe in his tweet went on to compare the iPhone 16 Pro camera details with S24 Ultra which once again he has learned from his sources. As per him Samsung’s 2024 flagship, the S24 Ultra will be featuring Samsung’s stock sensors, including the HP2 main camera, ultra-wide-angle, 3x, and slightly modified 10x lenses, similar to the S23 Ultra (review). Once a Samsung fan, Ice Universe went on to express his disappointment over the lack of innovation and improvement in Samsung’s camera performance over the past three years.
