It’s a well-known fact that Samsung and AMD are working hand-in-hand to develop Exynos GPUs following the AMD RDNA 2 architecture. In fact, both tech giants broke the news about their collaboration at Computex 2021 event. Now Samsung has officially confirmed its upcoming Exynos Chipset will feature Ray Tracing capable GPU. This information was shared on a Chinese social media site by sharing a picture of the gameplay graphic. In the comparison image below, the former image is of GPU without supporting ray tracing and the latter is the Exynos GPU that supports ray tracing. So, the Galaxy S22 lineup could be the first phone with this improved GPU.

The gameplay graphic image with Exynos GPU clearly depicts crisp and in-depth detailing. Be it the tank’s flame and its reflection, clouds, or the background building, an enhanced version of the game arena can be observed. But it is hard to justify the behaviour of ray tracing with still images. So, Samsung might release a teaser video for better understanding.

AMD has also revealed that the upcoming Exynos SoC will be a next-generation chip bringing variable-rate shading features to Samsung’s flagship smartphones. This feature will enable the CPU to allocate resources according to the requirement by shading partial or full segments of a frame. It will ultimately enhance the gaming processing power to a considerable level.

While the companies have not revealed many details on Exynos 2200 but they are certainly looking to over-power Qualcomm Adreno GPUs with their ray tracing and variable rate shading implementation. The Exynos 2200 will be a successor to the company’s current Exynos 2100 flagship chip. The experts in the industry believe that Exynos 2200 can give close competition to Apple’s A14 Bionic chip in terms of GPU benchmarks.
