Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par, that released in cinemas on 20th June is a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par. Even before the movie was released in theatres, there have been various rumors about its OTT Streaming Date & Platform. While earlier, it was expected that Aamir was planning to release the movie on OTT a week after theatrical release, then it was rumored that the movie wouldn’t stream on OTT anytime soon.
Putting an end to all the speculations, Aamir Khan himself has now confirmed the OTT Streaming Details for Sitaare Zameen Par. In a move to make content more accessible for Indians, the actor who is also the producer of the film has decided to skip OTT release on platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar, directly stream it directly on YouTube. Sitaare Zameen Par: OTT Streaming
Yesterday, Aamir Khan held a press conference wherein the actor announced ‘Janta Ka Theatre’, confirming that Sitaare Zameen Par will be available on YouTube from 1st August for just Rs. 100 in India. It is a pay-per-view model requiring a person to spend 100 INR to watch the movie on YouTube without any ads.
The film will stream on Aamir’s own YouTube channel called ‘Aamir Khan Talkies’ and be available to watch in India, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, and Spain, with pricing localised for every country. Subtitles will also be offered with dubs in key languages.
Aamir Khan Speaks about the New Model
The actor cum producer talked about his dream of democraticizing cinema, saying, “For the past 15 years, I have been struggling with the challenge of how to reach audiences who do not have geographical access to theaters, or those who are unable to make it to theaters for various reasons. Finally, the time for the perfect storm has come. With our government bringing in UPI and India becoming no 1 in the world in electronic payments, with internet penetration in India having grown dramatically and growing every day, and with YouTube being on most devices, we can finally reach vast sections of people in India and a significant part of the world. “
“My dream is that Cinema should reach everyone at a reasonable and affordable price. I want people to have the ease of watching Cinema when they want, where they want. If this idea works, Creative voices can tell different stories, breaking geographical and other barriers. This will also be a great opportunity for younger creative people entering the field of Cinema. If this idea works, then I see this as a win-win for all.”

Is it really beneficial for viewers?
While it is a one-of-a-kind OTT model that is being implemented with the movie, the question arises whether it is beneficial for viewers or not. Since everything has its pros and cons, this decision too has its own share of drawbacks and positives.
Talking about positives, it is definitely a bold move and will allow the film to reach wider audiences, even those who don’t have subscriptions to OTT platforms or possess special devices. The pricing of 100 INR is cheaper than cinema hall tickets and even some OTT plans. This makes it ideal for students and middle-class families. The viewers will have to pay a single time only for what they are watching, and they will get the flexibility to view it anytime, ad-free.
However, there are certain drawbacks too, especially for those who do have subscriptions to OTT platforms. One might feel why should he pay Rs. 100 for a single film when Netflix gives them unlimited movies and shows on mobile for just Rs. 199/month, or JioHotstar has a Rs. 149/Rs. 99 plan. Also, YouTube videos are easier to download and circulate using online tools. People with poor internet connections or limited data may hesitate to stream a full movie in HD on YouTube.
