Have you heard about ChatGPT? Yes, that’s an AI chatbot that has mushroomed in popularity thanks to its short and long-form human-mimicking responses. Well, it is available on its web i.e. web-based but seems like someone has created an app with the same name on the App Store. What’s intriguing is the fact that the app currently rose to the second most popular productivity app in the U.S. but it’s a hoax.

To get the story straight, ChatGPT from OpenAI is based on GPT-3 which stands for ‘Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3’ and is a certainly future-proof innovation to look out for. Interestingly, someone created an app on the App Store dubbed ‘ChatGPT Chat GPT AI With GPT-3’ which seems like a legit app but isn’t.

The unofficial ChatGPT app is available on the App Store at $7.99 weekly and $49.99 for an annual subscription. However, the thing is, it is not an official app. It has, in no sense, any affiliation to OpenAI which is the developed as well as its ChatGPT AI technology.

The app uses ChatGPT’s name to put some gravitas to it pulling in record numbers of subscriptions. It has already christened the position of the second most popular productivity app on the marketplace. If that’s not all, the report suggests the unofficial app topped the ‘Top Charts’ on the App Store in more than 100 countries. Again, this is a ginormous achievement made by a pseudo-app using the moniker of one of the best innovations in recent history.

Web-based ChatGPT is summoned as an iPhone moment by many. It took over the world recording a whopping one million users in just five days after it was launched. The AI is completely free to use and has all the basic to advanced features that makes it so fascinating. On the other hand, the unofficial app doesn’t have GPT-3 technology and thus, might bore inaccurate results.

You can use ChatGPT on your phone and desktop via its website. Again, there’s no app available so even if you come across an exact replica of GPT’s web interface, it isn’t official unless OpenAI declares otherwise.
