There’s a wave of excitement among enthusiasts and reviewers around the world as both Qualcomm and MediaTek have announced their flagship processors. On one hand, we have the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which will debut on phones like the OnePlus 13 and the Realme GT 7 Pro. On the other hand, there’s the Dimensity 9400 SoC, which will enter the ring on phones like the Oppo Find X8 and vivo X200.
Ahead of the smartphones’ launch, a Chinese tipster has bid the Snapdragon and MediaTek chips against each other, sharing interesting insights about how the processors perform in different benchmarks and real-life scenarios.

The OnePlus 13 Scores Over 3 Million Points On GeekBench 6 Benchmark

Renowned Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station has shared the benchmark scores of the OnePlus 13, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite, and they look promising. To begin with, the smartphone has scored 3,196 points in the single-core and 9,905 points in the multi-core Geekbench 6 CPU test. These scores are slightly better than those of the Dimensity 9400 SoC (3,005/9,173 in the single/multi-core test).
Here’s What The GFXBench Aztec 1440p Benchmark Suggests

Further, the tipster also shared details about how the OnePlus 13 performs in the GFXBench Aztec 1440P benchmark, which uses game-like content to test the peak GPU performance of a processor. In the test, the OnePlus flagship managed to pump out 120fps at 13W, which is only slightly less than the Dimensity 9400 SoC (125fps at 12.6W). However, looking at it from the perspective of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (85fps at 12.5W), the 8 Elite is a big upgrade.
The benchmark confirms that the new-age chipsets are not just powerhouses, but they’re among the most efficient powerhouses for flagship smartphones.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Is More Efficient While Gaming

Digital Chat Station also provides some insights into the real-world gaming performance of the OnePlus 13 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While playing Honor of Kings at the highest graphics settings, the phone managed a constant frame rate of 120.5fps while consuming just 3W of power. At the same time, Dimensity 9400 SoC achieved 120.7fps by consuming a tad more power (3.8W).
The tipster also tested the phone with other games like Marvel Snap, only to replicate similar results, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers 59.8fps at 4.07W, and the Dimensity 9400 delivers 59.3fps at 5.35W.
While the GFXBench benchmark suggested that MediaTek’s chip is more power efficient, there’s a different trend while playing video games, where Qualcomm’s chip managed to have the upper hand at power efficiency. To conduct the game test, all mobile phones were connected to 5G + Wi-Fi, with brightness set to 400 nits and WeChat running in the background. The room temperature was 24 degrees Celsius.

The tipster also adds that both processors have improved heat dissipation and temperature control. “After running the game, the body is only warm,” the tipster says.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Vs. Dimensity 9400: AnTuTu 10 Benchmark Scores

Meanwhile, the official Weibo account of OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 13 has reached 3,094,447 points in the AnTuTu 10 benchmark. The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC on the vivo X200 Pro also scored 3,007,853 on the same benchmark.
Moreover, the test results are promising, both for the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400. As the next wave of flagship smartphones will be based on these processors, it is very important for the companies to focus not just on peak performance but sustainable power efficiency. For now, it looks like Qualcomm and MediaTek have taken care of it, but we would want to wait for commercial units to make up a solid opinion about it.
