Regarding autofocus, it features a 693-point phase-detection AF system with 93 percent sensor coverage and 425 contrast-detection AF points.

The viewfinder on the camera is an OLED screen with 9.44 million dots and 120 frames per second refresh rate. It has a magnification ratio of 0.7x. The improved image processing speed allows the Sony Alpha 9 III to capture approximately 390 Fine JPED images in one continuous 30 frames per second burst. On the other hand, the customizable focus areas have been expanded to include from XS to XL. Regarding video recording, the camera is the first in the Alpha series that allows the user to record 4K 120p high-frame-rate videos without cropping into the sensor.
