1. Mahindra BE 6

Those who prioritize range should definitely consider the Mahindra BE 6 (and there are several reasons to do so). First and foremost, the vehicle offers a massive 79 kWh battery pack that promises a range of up to 682 kilometers. This is the highest claimed range for an electric vehicle under Rs. 30 lakhs (to our knowledge).
Realistically speaking, the vehicle should offer around 500 to 530 kilometers of all-electric range (on a single charge), which is excellent for long-distance commuters. The car also supports up to 175 kW DC fast charging, which should recharge the battery from 20 to 80% in about 20 minutes.
The company is also offering a lifetime warranty on the 79 kWh Pack Three variant, and we expect it to be available on the 79 kWh Pack Two variant as well. Some notable features of the vehicle include a unique and sporty design, a tech-loaded cabin with an aircraft-inspired drive selector and drive controls, a new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated BE logo, and a panoramic sunroof.
2. Mahindra XEV 9e

If you’re looking for a bigger, more spacious, yet equally good commuter for long distances, the Mahindra has another car in store for you: the XEV 9e. While the car’s base model comes with a 59 kWh battery pack, the top model (Pack Three) features a 79 kWh battery pack that offers up to 656 kilometers of cruising range. Fortunately, the second-top model (Pack Two) should also feature the same battery pack.
In the real world, with all the traffic jams, constant braking, and quick overtakes (that require hard acceleration), the electric SUV should offer around 500 kilometers of range on a single charge. Like the Mahindra BE 6, the XEV 9e also supports 175 kW fast charging, wherein the battery can be charged from 20 to 80% in about 20 minutes.

Besides added space, the XEV 9e offers a high ground clearance, an enormous boot space of 663 liters, a 150-liter frunk, an illuminated two-spoke steering wheel, an advanced infotainment system that runs on the company’s Adrenox software, and multiple 12.3-inch screens (for the instrument cluster and infotainment system).

3. Tata Curvv EV

The next entrant on the list is the newly-launched Tata Curvv EV. Although it isn’t as sporty and aggressive as the Mahindra BE 6, the Curvv EV offers a unique coupe-SUV design that resembles those of the more expensive vehicles. We’ve seen the car on Indian roads, and let us tell you that it easily stands out among a pack of 10 to 20 cars.
What gives an edge to the Tata Curvv EV over the others is the presence of the long-range battery pack on the third model from the base. We’re talking about the Accomplished (55 kWh) variant, with a certified range of 585 kilometers. Tata also advertises the vehicle’s real-world range, which is around 400 to 425 kilometers on a single charge.

While the on-road price of the BYD Atto 3 Premium (60.48 kWh) variant goes slightly above Rs. 30 lakhs, it is worth considering, especially for those who want a feature-loaded and spacious electric five-seater SUV.
The mid-specced Premium variant packs a 60.48 kWh battery pack, which BYD Attoo 3 up to 521 kilometers of range between charges. In the real world, the vehicle should offer around 400 kilometers of cruising range.
Regarding charging speed, the vehicle supports up to 80 kW DC charging, which charges up the battery in around 50 minutes. At home, the car can be charged overnight (up to 10 hours) with the slower AC charger.

6. Hyundai Creta Electric

Most recently, the Korean automaker Hyundai revealed the electric avatar of its most popular product in the subcontinent: the Creta SUV. Featuring a 51.4 kWh better pack on the Smart (O) variant, the Creta Electric claims to last 473 kilometers between charges. However, the real-world range of the vehicle is around 400 kilometers (depending on the driving pattern and conditions).
Using a DC charger, the battery charges from 10 to 80% in 58 minutes. On the other hand, an 11 kW AC home charger can replenish the battery from 10 to 100% in around four hours.
Key features of the Creta Electric include unlocking via digital key, a new three-spoke steering wheel, a circular driving mode selector on the center console, and a stick selector below the indicator shaft. The vehicle also offers ADAS features along with a large panoramic sunroof.
The only downside of the Hyundai Electric is its price, especially since competitors offer larger battery packs in their lower variants (which cost less).

7. Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
At the Bharat Mobility Expo, Maruti Suzuki revealed its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara. Although the company hasn’t revealed the claimed range of the vehicle, the variant with a 61 kWh battery pack is said to offer over 500 kilometers of range on a single charge. While we wait for the official figures to kick in, the vehicle could offer around 400 kilometers of real-world range between charges.
Unfortunately, details about the charging rate and time aren’t available yet. Although Maruti Suzuki hasn’t revealed the e-Vitara’s price, rumors suggest that the 49 kWh base variant could cost around Rs. 17 lakhs (ex-showroom), while the 61 kWh variant could cost around Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Some notable features of the e-Vitara include a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, an integrated dual-screen dashboard design, a rotary dial for drive mode selection, a panoramic sunroof, and a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat.
Honorable Mentions
Tata Nexon EV
After launching the Curvv EV, Tata upgraded the Nexon EV with a 45 kWh battery pack. While the car offers a claimed range of 489 kilometers, it should cruise around 370 to 380 kilometers on a single charge, which loses it a spot in the primary list of long-range electric cars in India. The most affordable variant with the aforementioned range is the Tata Nexon 45 kWh Create, which costs Rs. 13.99 lakhs (ex-showroom).
MG ZS EV
To simplify buyers’ decisions, MG ZS EV offers a 50.3 kWh battery pack throughout its lineup. In other words, you get the same battery pack on the base variant (Rs. 18.98 lakhs ex-showroom) as you get on the top variant (Rs. 24.74 lakhs ex-showroom). The 50.3 kWh battery pack offers a claimed range of 461 kilometers; it lasts around 350 kilometers between charges.
