TL; DR
  • Vespa Officina 8 launched in India starting at Rs 1.34 lakh.
  • Heritage-inspired design with Matte Metallic Blue and retro detailing.
  • Available in 125cc and 150cc variants with modern features.

The Italian automaker Vespa has launched the new Oficina 8 in India, a heritage-themed special edition scooter that pays tribute to the company’s original workshop at Piaggio’s Pontedera plant in Italy. Officina 8 starts from Rs. 1.34 lakhs (ex-showroom). You can buy it either with a 125cc or a 150cc variant.

Vespa Officina 8: Design & Aesthetics

One of the highlights of the Officina 8 is its nostalgic look, inspired by the tools and machinery of a 1940s workshop where the first Vespa was developed. It comes with an exclusive paintjob: Matte Metallic Blue Officina 8.

Its body is adorned with exposed metallic rivets, brass and aluminum tones, and a ribbed seat to match the mature, mechanical, and raw feel. Despite numerous aesthetic changes, the scooter retains its signature steel monocoque body.

Vespa Officina 8: Performance & Specifications

Under the hood, the Officina 8 is identical to the standard 125cc and 150cc models available in the company’s current Indian lineup. While the former produces 9.51 PS of peak power and 10.1 Nm of peak torque, the latter produces 11.42 PS of peak power and 11.66 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired with an automatic CVT transmission.

The claimed fuel economy for the standard 125cc variant is around 55 kmpl, while that of the 150cc engine is 45 kmpl. Among the key tech features are LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and single-channel ABD (standard on the higher 150cc trim). The scooter also features a single-sided arm front suspension with an anti-dive characteristic.

Vespa Officina 8: Included Accessories

Going heavy on the aesthetics, the company is also provides a color-matched half-face helmet (as standard equipment), a welcome kit that contains a book and some documents about the history of the original Officina 8 workshop, an optional top box, and an exclusive (yet optional) clothing lineup that includes hoodies, T-shirts, etc.

Vespa Officina 8: Pricing & Availability

The Officina 8’s 125cc variant starts at Rs. 1.34 lakhs (ex-showroom). The 150cc variant, on the other hand, should command a premium over the lower trim (but the pricing isn’t official yet).

Because it is a special-edition Vespa, it isn’t available at every dealership in the country. You can either contact your nearest Vespa dealer about it or ask for the contact information of another dealer who has the scooter on sale. The Officina 8 is currently available for purchase.

The launch of the Vespa Officina 8 clarifies several things for me. First, the company isn’t out for chasing sales volume in the Indian market. Despite not performing as well as other popular scooter brands in the country, the company has released a new special-edition model here, which seems more of a conscious business choice than a compulsion.

It is not easy to survive in a price-sensitive market like India, even more difficult when a brand is operating in the premium-lifestyle segment, which is a fraction of the entire market.
