vivo has put out two more teasers ahead of the X500 series launch, this time revealing the telephoto cameras on the Pro and Pro Max. The two phones are taking very different approaches with their zoom hardware, and the regular Pro is clearly moving down a tier compared with the X200 Pro and X300 Pro.
X500 Pro: Sony LYT-610, 64MP, 1/2-inch
The X500 Pro will use Sony’s LYT-A610 for its Zeiss “Super APO” telephoto camera. It’s a 64MP sensor with a 1/2-inch size.
That’s a pretty big change from the previous Pro models. The X200 Pro and X300 Pro both used 200MP Samsung HP-series sensors with a 1/1.4-inch sensor size for their telephoto cameras. The X500 Pro is therefore moving from 1/1.4-inch to 1/2-inch, while the resolution drops from 200MP to 64MP.
There are some upgrades elsewhere. 4K 120fps slow motion and 4K 60fps HDR recording are being added, while a redesigned autofocus structure is supposed to improve subject tracking. vivo is also giving the phone CIPA 7.0 stabilization.
Still, the camera hardware itself is a clear step down in size. The X500 Pro is also rumored to be smaller overall, so vivo seems to be making the Pro a different kind of phone this year. Perhaps it’s the spiritual successor to the base X300.

X500 Pro Max: Samsung HP0, 200MP, 1/1.4-inch
The Pro Max keeps the 200MP Samsung HP-series approach. vivo has confirmed Samsung’s HP0 sensor, with a 1/1.4-inch size, for its Zeiss “Super APO” telephoto camera.
That sensor size has been used across several recent vivo Pro models. The X100 Ultra, X200 Pro, X200 Ultra, and X300 Pro all used 1/1.4-inch Samsung HP-series telephoto sensors, although the exact sensor models differed. The Pro Max is therefore carrying forward the same physical sensor class that has been used on the Pro line.
A 400mm teleconverter is also supported, along with vivo’s “Super Snapshot Engine” for up to 30X snapshot capture. CIPA 7.0 stabilization is shared with the regular Pro.
So the Pro Max is effectively taking over the camera role that the Pro has occupied in recent generations. The naming still puts both phones in the Pro family, and the camera hardware now creates a much bigger gap between them.
If you bought the X300 Pro mainly for its zoom camera, the X500 Pro Max is the model that carries that hardware philosophy forward. The X500 Pro takes a different route with its smaller 64MP sensor.

India and the Size Shuffle
Tipster Yogesh Brar claims only the X500 Pro Max could launch in India this year, with the regular X500 Pro potentially being skipped. vivo hasn’t confirmed this yet.
The screen sizes are also rumored to change. The base X500 could have a 6.59-inch display, the X500 Pro could shrink to 6.3 inches, and the Pro Max could go up to 6.9 inches. A 6.3-inch Pro would make the phone considerably smaller than the X300 Pro.
