Whatsapp would sue you if you send bulk messages

Whatsapp threatens to take you to court if you misuse the app’s terms and conditions. The Facebook-owned company has recently updated “Unauthorized usage of WhatsApp” policy. You could face stern action if you take part in automated or bulk messaging, or non-personal use. This could be the next big action to curb fake news and to avoid businesses from exploiting the platform.

The cross-platform messaging giant hasn’t revealed the course of action as of now. However, it has mentioned that the new rule will come into effect starting 7 December 2019. The company states,

“Beginning on December 7, 2019, WhatsApp will take legal action against those we determine are engaged in or assisting others in the abuse that violates our Terms of Service, such as automated or bulk messaging, or non-personal use, even if that determination is based on information solely available to us off our platform.” 

The company has lately introduced a string of actions to tackle the fake news problem plaguing the platform. During the recent Loksabha elections, there were reports of bulk and automated messaging using free clone apps and a US$14 (RM58) software tool.

Some of these messages of various sham and bogus intentions even extend to illicit ends. The company has been battered by the government to clip its involvement in fake news.
